  • Hahas, most hacks have their mapping done first, but that's where the flame is at it's hottest, so they put in more effort to make eye candies 8D
Oh... Where have you been? Your hack's not very famous but I love it ^^ the style is so original!
    Hey friend!
Take a look at my Pokémon Red - Gen. II Graphics Patch!
Play through the original Pokémon Red we all know and love with huge improvements such as all new sprites from GSC!
No more pixelated "grainy" back sprites!
It's kind of like a sneak-peak to alot of the features included in my main hack, Pokémon Prototype!
Leave your feedback in the hack's thread!
And while you're at it, tell your friends!
    Thanks a bunch!
Hey, I know you're prolly very busy with ur hack but can you give me a link to that wooden house tile in your hackl?
Heck, that's not the right attitude at all :P
Look, join Skeetendo Inc. and check out "Global FAQ and Resource Thread" by kkj1116 there. You'll find lots of neat stuff there and I've no doubt you wouldn't understand how hacking works by reading some tutorials in there. You've got nothing to lose, expect for time...
Isn't that what rom hacking is all about :P ?
Rom hacking is not mapping, not inserting tiles with a game-specific tile inserter, not adding more events to a map with A-map either by using some editor's command for "add new event here".

If you're not interested in what you're calling "hacking", why not learn how to do the stuff in a proper way then? You might have seen my earlier modifications on pokemon crystal which I made with zero-knowledge on hacking so far. Yet little by little, I started studying rom hacking in general, how bytes work, what bits are, what is "ram", how Gameboy processor handles data, ..., and I'm still on that path learning more and more all the time.

I for myself have quite a lot of free time to spend on rom hacking although I do have plenty of other interests as well. And even of this rom hacking part, let's say, 70% of it is really working on Dark Future. The remaining 30% goes for advising others, learning by doing so, asking questions, studying more etc.

Not sure why I really wanted to say all this but related to what I pointed out earlier, rom hacking is a lot more fun when you actually have to use your brain to do something. I also used to like doing stuff your way but it's really not that fun without having sort of a problem solving behind it. http://www.wordiq.com/definition/ROM_hacking
    Hi!

I can't help but shake the feeling I was supposed to find some kind of tile for you and I've yet to do that- I'm afraid I'm kept reeeeeeeeeeally busy with Uni and general mod work around here, so it just slipped my notice, and I'm sorry about that! :( What was I supposed to give you again, a mountain tile or something? :P
Why's that? I can tell you that hacking turns out a lot more fun when you actually know what you're doing, experimenting and finding out more and more. Doing simple changes with a hex editor isn't really any more difficult than doing the exactly same things with a game-specific editor. For example in Silver, if you wanted to make a trainer have a lv 10 Magikarp you'd simply write his pokemon data as:
0A 81 FF in which 0A is the hexadecimal form of "10", 81 "129" (Magikarp's number in pokedex) and FF for ending the pokemon data. It's really not that complicated...

And once you understand the basics you can move on into doing more difficult things. And I can say for myself that I would have never gotten this far if it wasn't for my curiousity in learning how to hack G/S/C (instead of FireRed for instance).

I'd say, if you are even a bit interested in learning how to hack Silver, go for it! You can even apply most of the stuff you know about hacking GB/C games into GBA ones as well. I could go and create an excellent GBA pokemon rom hack if I wanted to even though I haven't been messing around with tools such as XSE and A-Map at all (because I already know what they "do" without actually having to use them).
Sixth form? Yeah, I know what having girlfriend means. ;D yeah man but prob is, I'm so lazy all I want it to sit down and draw/write stuff/map/chat all day.. though if I could get a job, I'd be happy to get paid. I live in Greece, you see, no job will ever be found easily here.

Yeah, thanks man. I hoped I could make an epic hack, a game of my own, but it seems like I've failed, and I realized that a long time ago.

Seriously?! You'll be getting that much? That's awesome man, stick to it! But what exactly will you be doing?
Oh, I see. I don't have any job, I admire how you hack and work. xD

O/ws need attendance, and other stuff as well. I don't want to do it anymore, anyway.

I think there is, check out the Toolbox. Might not be released yet, though.. and thanks, what are you planning on doing?
You sound like a busy person.. xD

Yeah but I don't need just 'help' like I said before - it's much more than that..

That sounds completly reasonable, but I don't have motivation. I'm not only into hacking - I'm into Roleplaying and drawing (I'm going to give some exams next year to pass onto the Fine Arts school). For this phase of my life, anything I'd do in the hacking concept would be mapping/tile inserting.

Oh well, lol. It's just much easier to communicate.
I see, that's quite the problem. They're alotta different, but imo XSE has more capabilities. Not like I've used it many times, lol

Meh. Who would want to lead such a project, made by someone else? If I wanted someone else to lead it, I'd choose somebody I trust and somebody who knows scripting well, before making sure they would really want to do it as bad as me. Which is nobody xD

It's no serious virus, really. Just an annoying pop up I'll be able to kick off some time. Sure, I understand your desire to map with different tilesets - I'm a mapper myself. xD Can't say no to a fellow hacker. Find me in [email protected], by the way.
Yeah I've heard of this XSE/Pokescript division of hackers. xD

No, I didn't spend 2 years to release it in the public, and as for a hacking team, I was never born a leader, to be honest..

Currently the PC that has the ROM has a virus and I'm trying to fix it, but if I ever get over it, I'll lend you the tiles. You can practice with them - the tileset was made exactly for mapping. But I don't want them running around the section, k?
the thing is I don't even know how to script. I'm sure I would be able to learn fast, but lol it's just not worth it anymore.. I mean I have taken a massive turn into Pokemon - from wanting to create my own game to reliving previous games such as Crystal or Emerald or Platinum (remakes that are bound to appear). But from time to time I get inspirations for new maps as well.

I see, I see. It's great to see that kind of ambition in people, because I lost it long ago. xD

Oh yes, it wouldn't quite work out. Besides, I've dumped the project... help won't just be enough, trust me. Thanks for your kind comments though, I've worked hard on the tileset/finding and adjusting tiles to my style to fit in a single primary tileset. In fact, that's what I've been doing the past two years, ever since you left hacking.. lol, 0 actual in-game progress.
