    Mind Read the Room

What is Mind Read the Room?
A survey-based game about your experiences and thoughts about Pokemon. Scores players based on how well they predict how everyone answered. Wins by accumulating the most points after the results of all the questions on a survey.

Ran this game twice before. May still view the first game here, if you wish to see an example. Tweaked it a hair from then, but not too much.

    Changes for returning players
Stayed mostly the same from last year's Get-Together event. Compiled a quick list of rule changes for those that remember it.
    • Two separate surveys of 10 questions each instead of three cumulative surveys of 4-6 questions each.
    • Included all three question types for each survey. Denoted them as (YN) for Yes/No, (MC) for Multiple Choice, and (SR) for Short Response.
    • No Get-Together points for 2nd or 3rd place. Added an achievement for Get-Together points too.
    • Cannot edit your responses on Google Forms. Send a private message if you wish to change something.

How many points do you earn for your team in the Get-Together?
    1st place: 10 Get-Together points
All participants (including 1st place): 5 Get-Together points

    Achievements

Mind Reader: 10 Get-Together points. Score at least 25 points in each survey. (Tiebreaker: Highest combined score.)

Awards this to only one person.

When is the deadline for entering?
    Runs two separate rounds.
    • Survey 1: August 19 at 12:01 PM Eastern Standard Time
    • Survey 2: August 23 at 12:01 PM Eastern Standard Time

    Where do you submit answers?

Option 1: Through Google Forms. Does not require you to submit an e-mail address or sign-in.

Link to Survey 1's Google Form
(Look here later for Survey 2's link.)

Please post here once you have submitted your answers through Google Forms, also. Prevents hooligans from impersonating others.

Option 2: Via private message (to Devalue). Please include which team you are on.

Listed all the questions and instructions below. Please give honest answers and do not share your answers with others until revealed. Please do not look through a person's old forum posts for information on how they may have answered either.

For transparency: Answered all of these questions and submitted predictions, as the host. Earns no Get-Together points as the host, however.

    How to Answer
Poses three different types of questions. Denotes each type with a label, for clarity:
    • (YN) for Yes/No questions
    • (MC) for Multiple Choice questions
    • (SR) for Short Response questions

    Yes/No (YN) Questions
Submits two things per Yes/No question: your answer and your prediction. May choose one of the following options for your prediction on how everyone answered:
    • More than 50% Yes. Earns 2 points if correct.
    • More than 75% Yes. Earns 4 points if correct.
    • More than 50% No. Earns 2 points if correct.
    • More than 75% No. Earns 4 points if correct.
    • Contested. Earns 5 points if 40% to 60% answer "Yes".

A sample submission for a generic Yes/No question:
    Code:
    [cd=background-color:#242424;][color="White"]1.  Answer: Yes.
    Prediction: More than 50% No.[/color][/cd]

Earns 2 points if more than 50% of respondents said "No" to that question.

    Multiple Choice (MC) Questions
Presents a question with several options. Asks for your answer first and your prediction second. Requires only one letter choice for each.

    Scoring:
    • Predicting the most popular answer: 4 points
    • Predicting the second most popular answer: 2 points

A sample submission for a generic multiple choice question:
    Code:
    [cd=background-color:#242424;][color="White"]1.  Answer: A. Pikachu
    Prediction: C. Meowth[/color][/cd]

Earns 4 points if the most popular answer was Meowth. Only gets 2 points if it was second most popular.

    Short Response (SR) Questions
Asks for multiple answers and predictions per question for this final section. Requests a different number of answers on a question-by-question basis, so make sure you wrote enough for that question. Submit as many predictions as the number of answers you gave. Cannot answer (or predict) the same thing multiple times, also. (Example: Do not answer "Pikachu, Pikachu, and Pikachu".)

    Scoring:
    • Predicting the most popular answer: 5 points
    • Predicting the second most popular answer: 3 points
    • Predicting the third most popular answer: 1 point

A sample submission for a generic Short Response question asking for three answers.
    Code:
[cd=background-color:#242424;][color="White"]1. Answer: Walking Wake, Iron Leaves, and Iron Hands
Prediction: Scream Tail, Walking Wake, and Iron Hands.[/color][/cd]

Potentially earns 9 points if Scream Tail, Walking Wake, and Iron Hands are the #1, #2, and #3 answers, in this case.

just an fyi but on some styles the
    Code:
bb code defines the text as white on white background. i would recommend either defining the color to a dark one (like black) or using a spoiler tag!

and same thing with hyperlinks - they show bright on white with some styles. defining the text color inside the url tag should fix this!

Thanks. Should be fixed now. Switched to the default theme. Looked normal (or at least close enough to what it was). Probably affects the other thread as well. Will get on that momentarily.

As it stands, the event looks fine and glad to see it's back again this year, this is always fun!

Regarding Achievements, I like the idea of scoring top 3 in both surveys for 10 points. Perhaps something like getting over X points in each survey, with highest amount taking it?

Event should be fine once we decide on what is happening with Achievements.

Preferred two top 3 performances at first, rather than scoring a minimum of X points on both. Cannot predict the the maximum score accurately beforehand. Awards 2-5 points per Yes/No question. Potentially scores 5 points per answer (due to ties) on Short Response questions. Swings anywhere from a maximum of 41 to 61 points on Survey 1, for example.

Realized the possibility for a teammate to knock someone out of the top 3. Feels bad to do that. Downplays the big range of maximum scores too. Requires some unlikely circumstances to hit 50+.

Maximum for last year's Mind Read the Room:

    2 + 4 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 16 for Yes/No
    6 * 4 = 24 for Multiple Choice
    9 + 8 + 9 = 26 for Short Response

    16 + 24 + 26 = 66 maximum. Scored 42 for 1st place, 39 for 2nd, and 38 for a three-way tie for 3rd. Dropped to 34 after that.

Offered the same breakdown of questions last year, but 50% more (as a single survey). Expects about 44 for a maximum score. Estimates 1st place to get 28 points. Sticks 3rd place at about 25. Added the following achievement to the post.

Mind Reader: 10 Get-Together points. Score at least 25 points in each survey. (Tiebreaker: Highest combined score.)
    ____________

    More things:
    1. Stuck in a temporary header image. Could change it easily enough if it the teams are incorrect.
    2. Added 5 Get-Together points for participating. Question: Should 1st place also get the participation points?
    3. Nailed down the other survey's questions. Posts it here to have something properly formatted in advance.
