[Eventing Question] Persona 5 like free time events. v20.1

I'm making a Pokémon fangame that takes place in a school, and it has friendship events similar to confidants in persona 5 or the social links in persona 3 and 4. These friendship events take place during "free time". I have figured out how to get the friendship events working, but the free time is what I'm stuck on. Right now "free time" is triggered by a control switch, but how would I make it so there is a story event, free time, and then a different story event after each time? Basically, how do I make the game go like this:
Story event, free time, next story event, free time, next story event, free time, next story event...
