    Pokemon: The Mecha Anime

Before Time began, there was Nothing but the God of Creation. The God of Creation thus created Space, and Palkia; Time, and Dialga. After, the God of Creation created Giratina, to build Earth.

Giratina, however, refused to allow life to flourish. Palkia, Dialga, and the God of Creation fought against Giratina, then the God of Creation sealed it away inside of the antimatter realm, known as the Shattered World.

Working to reclaim what Earth Giratina had left behind, the God of Creation created Regigigas. Proving to be intelligent and skillful, Regigigas created Regice to form the arctic and waters, Regirock to form the ground, and Registeel to form the molten core. Regigigas called his creation the True World, planted the seed of first life in the waters, then laid himself to slumber, hidden as a titan beneath the earth.

Life prospered and grew into God's Creations. When God's Creations became Man, the God of Creation created what humans came to call Humanity. Humanity is the embodiment of characteristics given purely to humans: Uxie the spirit of Knowledge; Azelf the spirit of Free Will; Mesprit the spirit of Emotion.

However, Giratina still worked in shadow, creating beings of its own. Great beasts to control the elements, infused with godlike powers. And it is said that Giratina shall one day unleash these beasts upon us all.

    Characters

[Content warning: mentions; drug use, failed attempted suicide, sex, infant death, domestic abuse, trauma, ptsd]

    Akagi

    Pokemon: The Mecha Anime
Akagi was always interested in the legends of old. As long as he's lived, despite his efforts, despite his high intellect, despite his charisma, he's known only pain. His parents never thought he was good enough. He saw only misery everywhere. People hurt by other people. And the world was filthy.

His ideals were shared by many who were dragged into his charms. Thus, he created his cult which sought to awake Giratina and start the world anew. Akagi's true goal, however, was to enact the Great Cleansing, and awaken God. Awaken Arceus.

He followers grew, and he manipulated and schemed to get his way. He had intimate relations with women codenamed Jupiter and Mars to persuade them to act as offerings for Dialga and Palkia. This resulted in both women's death, as well as a fight between the original creation trio. Tears between the Shattered and True Worlds formed as a result, and Giratina sent his scourge upon the True World.

After war and beasts tore the world apart, Akagi took on the role of businessman and founded the Galaxy Corporation. He began work on giant fighting robots called Mechs in order to fight against the hellish beasts. This caught the attention of a young reporter woman called Shirona. Shirona supported Akagi's idea and worked closely with him in commanding the robots' pilots. She soon fell in love with Akagi.

He created the first Fighter's Academy in Sinnoh, which has since gained footing in other regions as well. These Academies train only select students in the field of academics and piloting Mechs, and accept only college-aged young adults or older.

    Shinji

    Pokemon: The Mecha Anime
When the Shattered World unleashed its reign upon the True World, Shinji (7 years) and his older brother, Reiji (10 years), were left to live as orphans when their parents died in the aftermath. In a war-stricken world, the brothers fought to survive, and hung on at the edges of society; forgotten, abandoned. Shinji used this as a source of motivation and became the best student in his high school.

This gained him a scholarship to the Sinnoh Fighter's Academy, where he swore to don the Mech and fight back the bestial invasion. He grew to be one of the top students in the world. He, a girl called Rin, and a guy called Daigo, who had been transferred to Sinnoh from a destroyed Hoenn, fought valiantly together against the bestial invasion.

However, Shinji watched Daigo and his Mech perish to the onslaught. This haunts Shinji, and he hates to call for backup, preferring to do everything himself even if it means he dies in the process.

    Rin

    Pokemon: The Mecha Anime
Rin was born to a fatherless home. After her mother became pregnant with her, her father abandoned them and wound up dead from an overdose. Her mother seemed to resent Rin, perhaps because of this, perhaps because of her daughter's stunted emotions, perhaps because of the strain on their relationship. Rin isn't sure which came first, but she grew up as an out of control teenager.

Rin eventually got into drugs and stayed out late, often extremely high on one thing or another. Feeling like a failure, feeling unwanted, Rin hanged herself. She failed, and clung to life in the hospital.

There, she was met with visions from the God of Creation. An impossibly huge being, created of space dust or fog, with looming red eyes as large as suns. He spoke to her, spoke of His Will. He thus called upon her to enact His Will.

Rin survived with no longterm damage. The doctors called it "a miracle". Her mother still called her "a mistake". Rin was disowned. But Rin no longer cared for such things. She only cared to enact God's Will.

She is the only human on Earth able to summon Humanity from within the Sinnoh Great Lakes, making her extremely valuable to Akagi. He makes her his puppet, and she excels academically and as a Mech Fighter. As Akagi's pet project, she is the number 1 student throughout any of the Fighter's Academies.

    Jun

    Pokemon: The Mecha Anime
Jun is what most people in the Sinnoh Fighter's Academy call "lucky". He scraped by with grades that qualified as "just barely passing", and is considered the dumbest and luckiest (and tallest at 6'4") student in SFA. Jun doesn't take any of this to heart, though. He has to work extremely hard, and does so out of love for his late mother.

After Jun's mother died to [redacted], Jun and his father vowed to work with the Galaxy Corporation in building and fighting with Mechs. Jun's dream is to be the best Fighter he can be, and to help young boys in the same place he and his father were once in.

Jun's best friend and neighbor, Kouki, is one of the mid-to-high-tier students, and has thus fought alongside Shinji and Rin. This makes Jun extremely envious, and he pushes himself every day for the chance to meet with Shinji and Rin. Jun adores how Shinji and Rin fight and sacrifice every day for the betterment of mankind.

    Shirona

    Pokemon: The Mecha Anime
Shirona lost her family to the bestial onslaught. Her daughter, mother, father, and grandmother all perished. She watched her daughter die to the beasts, and almost died as well. She dedicated the greater part of her life to reporting on the calamity, and researched the Galaxy Corporation. Her extreme intelligence became of interest to Akagi, and she became infatuated with his ambition to save humanity from the beasts. Soon, she fell in love with him, and he began to use her to further his own goals.

    Saturn

    Pokemon: The Mecha Anime
Hiroto (can be written as meaning "help of god", "benevolence", "light", "heaven/firmament", "smart/shrewd", among many other things; one even means "the forest surrounding the shrine", which invites some Johto/Celebi involvement), codenamed Saturn to protect his identity, is a spy in charge of looking after Akagi and the Galaxy Corporation. His great intelligence made him an easy candidate for Chancellor of SFA. He takes his position seriously, feeding intel to his side.

Saturn does not know of Akagi's past as a cult leader (Akagi has done a wonderful job erasing that past of his), but knows that Akagi has ulterior motives for wanting to build Mechs, train Fighters, and "seal off the Shattered World". He's also aware that Akagi is a charismatic man who uses women to further his goals. Saturn knows about Rin being Akagi's pet project, and has grown very fond of Rin. He tries his best to keep Rin safe from Akagi's clutches.

    Pokemon: The Mecha Anime

    Pokemon

The pokemon in this world are the canon pokemon, only called beasts instead, as humans have no way of capturing or controlling them. As Giratina gets stronger, as do his beasts. They began more recently coming forth in the form of larger and stronger beasts ("Dynamax"), known as BeastOne, BeastTwo, and so on. Mega Evolution comes in the form of BeastDelta, which is a combination of Gigantamaxing and Mega Evolving.

Giratina begins with regular beasts to start off. 20 years later, BeastsOne and Two and, soon, Delta, began emerging, testing the Fighters' resilience, both sides growing stronger, though Giratina's godly powers exponentially faster.

    Mechs

The Galaxy Corporation succeeded in creating Mechs (first Mech-A through Mech-E; then Mech-1 through Mech-4). Mechs use direct nerve connection and brainwave control to pilot. The Mechs run off batteries, which are kept fully charged. These batteries last around 5-10 minutes, depending on a variety of factors. The Mechs (1-4) have been made larger due to the size of the beasts, and Shinji and Rin have had to adjust their fighting due to this.

The Mechs are built with strong, durable, flexible metals, and are adorned with a dagger and holsters for various weaponry. Only those who have passed the Fighter's Tests can pilot a Mech.

Due to their unique method of control, they are highly dangerous to the pilots. The Fighters can feel what their Mech feels, which quickens their reaction time and makes them more effective in combat. They are highly susceptible to injury. When Shinji could not team up with Rin as she had to try and contact Humanity, he had to team up with Kouki. CharizardOne injured Kouki quite severely, and Shinji felt immense guilt for this.

    Plot ideas

    • Dialga and Palkia die to Regigigas's rampage, after Dialga and Palkia were awoken by Humanity just as TyranitarDelta was unleashed upon the world.
    • Jun is connected to the spirit of Emotion.
    • Shinji is connected to the spirit of Free Will.
    • Rin is connected to the spirit of Knowledge.
All three of them maybe even are the human forms of these spirits?
    • Pseudo-legendaries attacking is what pushes Akagi to act immediately: Giratina is becoming too powerful.
    • Humanity is killed by [redacted].
    • Jun is straight for Rin, but gay for Shinji.

    🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

Let me know what you guys think so far! Do you have any ideas? Think something doesn't quite fit right? Don't be shy!

    Motif Ideas

    Shinji

Motifs: Rain (cleansing; fits with Rin; happens every time he witnesses death), children (innocence had and innocence lost; he fights for a brighter future)

    Rin

Motifs: Clouds (freedom and cleansing; ala rain; very prone to spacing out and looking at the sky), darkness (represents her darkest hour encroaching whenever she is near, in, or mentions the dark)

    Jun

Motifs: Cold weather (contrasts his warmth; generally, his disdain for cold weather; he watched his mother be killed by an ice move, though this memory is repressed at first)

    Saturn

Motifs: Coffee (simplicity and happiness; Saturn is a very stable, peaceful, and calm person), books (knowledge and consistency; often surrounding him and Rin when they discuss her tumultuous future)

    Motif combinations

Interested in combing character motifs subtly as a way to foreshadow or set a scene. Ideas include:
    • Darkness with coffee in the candlelight (When Rin comes to Hiroto/Saturn for comfort, her darkness is cut out by Saturn's stability, ala his coffee)
    • Fluffy clouds becoming grey and rainy (When Shinji has a flashback to Daigo's death after Rin is seriously injured)

More to come, subject to change!

    Themes

Possible main theme about trauma, tying together motifs about darkness, frigidity, innocence, freedom, and cleansing.

One Bible verse that I really like as a tie-in for the theme is:
    Revelation 21:4
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

It would be fun to try and add the numbers 21:4 in various ways around the fic (14; 12; 21; 214; etc)

Fat might need to be trimmed from the theme, but it's all seeming to work well together thus far.

    Scene Ideas

Her breath heaved, uneven and haggard. Shinji knelt before her, hands upon her shoulders as her entire body trembled. Her blue eyes greyed. Her voice sounded strained and breathless,

    "Humanity will die,
    And the titans will rise,
The beings of space and time will fall,
    Exhorting God from on high,
    Usurping the Devil from below,
So the Old Ones may return."

Giratina = Facing and conquering trauma (conquer)
Arceus = Succumbing to trauma (succumb)

Rin hurting herself when possessed by Arceus is succumbing.

The Great Cleansing is a juxtaposition of succumbing, as it is often seen as the easiest solution. Arceus wishes to bring about the Great Cleansing. Akagi does, as well, as he has already succumbed to his trauma.

When Rin [self-harms] and tries to kill Shirona, who then has a nearly overwhelming urge to hurt herself with that same knife: that knife is symbolic of Arceus's control over them both.

The strong beasts (Deltas, etc) are symbolic of facing trauma and trying to conquer it. Each of the Fighters is seen losing and winning at least once each, at different times in their story:
Jun loses his first fight, against [redcated] after [redcated]. Jun then wins his second fight, also against [redcated], showing that he is in the process of tackling his past.
Shinji wins his first fight against Charizard, showing his relative stability at the beginning. Shinji then loses the next fight against SalamenceDelta, which starts his downward spiral. And while he wins against MetagrossDelta, Rin almost dies in the process, bringing his trauma front and center.
Rin runs away from [redcated] because she was trying to save Jun. She wins against SalamenceDelta to save Shinji. She fails at saving herself with MetagrossDelta. Rin feels guilt when she fails Jun and ultimately helps him to succeed. Rin was happy to save Shinji, as she felt it was necessary. She didn't feel the same way about herself.

Rin also happens to be the catalyst for people facing their trauma, not necessarily due to her actions but just because she now exists in their lives. This is because she is often possessed by Arceus, who sees her as a messenger of sorts (and would not allow her to die, even if she stands on death's doorstep, ala when she hanged herself). When Jun meets Rin, he is forced to remember his mother's death. When Shinji gets close with Rin, his past starts to haunt him. Rin forced Shirona to once more live through the guilt of losing her daughter. Rin makes Saturn remember something about his past that drives his desire to protect her? Her and Akagi somehow? Her and Reiji, even? Kouki?

The theme boils down to facing your trauma or succumbing to it. One is much easier than the other — plenty of people will double down and succumb to their trauma, while plenty more refuse to be the victim and face whatever hurt them. And while facing your trauma may hurt, it is often the better thing to do to live a decent life.
