Agreed. One of my former co-workers had a small dog that she kept in her apartment. She was living alone, so she had to care for it by herself. She was actually hiding that she had it, so she had to move out and find a new place that allowed pets. Pretty much every minute of her free time was spent with the dog. She sometimes admitted that she was feeling pretty miserable, but she just didn't want to live alone. I really don't want something like that.
On the other hand, a friend from work just moved in with her boyfriend, and he brought his cat along. Apparently she's having a hard time getting along with it, the cat never really pays any attention to her unless it's feeding time. She's more of a dog person, so this is only adding fuel to the fire, but even so she's pretty bummed about it.
