Your friend must have been really confused, I guess if you live there long-term you'd need someone who can read/write/speak Japanese to translate things like official paperwork for you (like alien registration, moving papers, etc) but it's not something you're required to have yourself. oh nooo it doesn't, there are plenty of people/foreigners that live there right now for school or work relocation reasons that don't speak the language. That's definitely not true, as someone who has researched this extensively for years you don't have to worry about it at all o: where did you read that? I know plenty who live there and can barely speak jp lol. Just gotta find a way to survive with minimal/no understanding aaaaa

I took it December. ^_^ But I heard they take about a year after you pass the exam to actually call you in for an interview, which sucks..

And man sign me up. Here cashier stuff like that is $8-10/hour, and that's in an already-expensive city. :/ But I heard Costco is an amazing place to work because the cashiers get paid $15+ and have very good benefits. I waaaaaant. ; ;

Dang omg. I got paid $11 at my receptionist job at a mortgage broker office with no benefits whatsoever when I quit 6 months in and they start at $12 with benefits after 6 months?? Please. I shed tears....

Though I took a city exam to get an office assistant position in our public colleges since they mostly only hire people who took the job certification exams/passed their typing test and got a very high score so I'm waiting until I'm called to interview for those. Usually takes around a year after the exam until they get to you but it's worth it, the benefits are absolutely amazing and it's a job you can live off of your whole life. Want. ;w;

(but awwww man that stinks. Hope you can afford your apartment with your salary, though I'm probably just assuming it's way more expensive than it actually is because yay NYC apartment prices ridic.)
