I was going to go through with six or seven Japanese courses in university, but I only have three courses for electives now after the Geography program requirements got switched around. That would only get me some basic understanding of Japanese and isn't worth it compared to doing something else, like Environmental Studies :( I was a bit disappointed.
And I missed half of your last message in oversight, but typically to determine giftedness they test you in a number of areas. When I was in Grade Five, they tested me on reading, writing, math, knowledge, etc. For reading and writing, I achieved a university level of understanding. Knowledge was Grade Twelve and math was Grade Eleven. They determine with it where your strengths are. Some people are just incredibly good at math and suck at languages - they can still be gifted, though, since they have an abnormally high talent / capacity for math stuff.
