Btw Sapphire is Greek for "Blue stone" but likely referred to Lapis lazuli during the time of the ancient greeks. Ruby is latin. Emerald comes from old french which and middle english irc. The old french comes from vulgur latin and then latin so Sapphire is the only greek named stone of the three.

There are only so many things you can discuss in a club before we're back to the same topics we discussed previously and that's why I feel clubs have gotten stale. That and they keep falling inactive and then being re-opened by new people.. gets exhausting having to sign up for clubs again and again only to have them die off in a few months. blegh.

Btw if the Mortality trio is based on Norse myth then Kalos' mascot (along with their starters...look at our earlier convo on France with it's frogs and chestnuts with their former colony having Foxes like Fennekin) are as linked to their real life counterparts as the other even gens. You see the Vikings during the Middle Ages settled what is now northwestern France. Now both the Ultimate weapon and the Tower of Mastery are in the area of Kalos based on said area. Then there's mention to how Kalos' legends aren't well known, and the lack of knowledge as to where Lysander got the mascot...it's possible that the Kalos trio isn't native to Kalos at all but migrated there or we captured and taken there in ancient times. Btw England also is connected to the Vikings.

Kalos' are the closest to relation to the basis of the region. The fox that Fennekin is based on lives in Algeria which was a colony of France. Frogs are popular french food in tv depictions of France. Chestnuts are popular in France too apperantly...
I was hoping that the next region would be based on China as the Unova starters are based on Japanese samurai (Gen I-IV being Japan) , a French King (Louis XIV (Gen VI)), and the pig from Journey to the West (a chinese story). It's interesting how the Unova and Sinnoh's starter's themes are similar as Chimchar's line is based on Goku from JtW and Piplup's is based on Emperor Napoleon. Actually Greninja continues on with the Japanese warrior theme so Unova's are related in theme to those before and after it...
Maybe the fire starter will be a snake based on Python, the serpent of Gaea who was killed by Apollo and replaced by the Oracle of Delphi (Delphox's name coming from Delphi and the psychic typing backs this up).
