If I found the name "nostalgia whore" offensive, it's because I find the word "whore" to be offensive, but that's another topic for another time. :P
Heh, I guess you could call me a Gen 1/2 person. I was one of those people who lost interest around the time the Fad died and RS came out and never completely got back into the later games.
(To me, the big dividing line is between Gens 2 and 3. Most "Gen 1 Fans" also like Gen 2 and GSC. It's with Gen 3 and later that you start to see conflict. RSE was a massive reboot for the franchise, so it makes sense that you'd see generation gaps and divisions with it.)
To me, my issues with Sun/Moon are less about the games not being like the older ones, but more about the games feeling like a (pardon my French) a crappy romhack instead of legit Pokémon games. The concept of "Alola Forms" is an idea that amateur hackers already came up with 10 years ago, aka. recolor a sprite, slap a different type/stats on it, and call it a a "new" Pokémon. The idea of replacing gyms with an alternative quest is also something you see in a ton of hacks, usually with horrible execution. A friend of mine also (very accurately) pointed out that the Ultra Beasts are pretty much canon fakemon.
I realize that the games were starting to get formulaic and needed to change things up, but I'm not sure if this was the best way to do it.
