It's South Africa, that country has a violent past not purely related to homophobia, it's not a surprise that children aren't affected by violence. The killer is being charged with murder, that's justice. Sad but not a good example of anything but one sadistic man. The fact that his victim was gay is irrelevant, if you have the motive to kill someone like that you could do it to anyone. Ask yourself, is it very effective oppression if you'l be caught, condemned and sent to prison?

She was fined when it could have been disregarded as a family issue. That's evidence of a very anti-homophobic justice system. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, yes I can say it happened because he was gay but so what, one homophobic woman who was punished for it? That's not oppression beyond the individual level.

Locals demonstrated against attack, it's being investigated. Just because a few ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s decide they don't like gays does not mean it's evidence of widespread hatred, quite the opposite if you notice how it has been condemned.

At night, no witnesses besides the couple and the criminal at large... Who is to say that they weren't just victims of a good ol mugging attempt and made up this story for their cause? Lalala, yeah I wouldn't get attacked for being straight but I could be equally at risk of physical harm if I walked around in a shady city at night. Not that I think it's right to go around punching people in the face for being gay but I can get punched in the face for other reasons.

It was homophobic because it happened in a gay area... I guess I'd better never enter one then or if I get stabbed people will think I'm gay. The suspect had taken alcohol and cocaine, Coke can get you pretty aggressive or so I've heard, you might think it could be a homophobic attack but maybe the victim just looked at him the wrong way, stuff like this happens all the time due to alcohol and drugs, it's well publicised in my city and not just for gay people:

A lot of this is just wrong place, wrong time, a few bad criminals. I don't think gay people are genuinely less safe than anyone else. What if I found a whole list of black on white crime articles? White victims cannot change who they are either. I think it's preposterous to use cases of a few people who are clearly sadistic as evidence of a society tolerant of that behaviour when most of them got charged. Nothing more needs to be done when the justice system is doing its job and most people don't do this, or support people that go out and do this.
