It sounds a lot like what was on I'm With You. And to be honest, I was never too into that album. Not that it's bad, it's just not the sound I expect when I want to listen to RHCP. That was also the album where Frusciante said goodbye to the band forever, and he was the talent that kept me listening for years on end, so I kind of let the band drift away following that. His replacement is incredibly talented as well, but I don't think the RHCP are as good without Frusciante's creativity and talent.
So, maybe, over time, Dark Necessities will grow on me. It's got some sick bass lines and a catchy chorus, but still missing something intrinsic comparable to what hooked me onto the RHCP so badly ten years ago.
