Best Smeargle Movesets

So, yeah. Smeargle can learn almost every move. The possibilities are overwhelming! What are some good movesets to give ole Smeary? They can be movesets for competitive play, or to be bred onto another pokemon.

My Smeargle named Van Gogh has the following moves:
Mean Look
False Swipe
Spore
Recover

He is to be used for catching the legendary runners, once he's level 100. Why 100? At 54, those stats are killing me. >_<

He'll work alongside my Epikarp to help him sweep teams with Flail. 8D; Also had a Flying Smeargle at some point.

I'm disappointed that Smeargle has such rubbish stats... Even with maximal IVs and EVs its attack is only 79 at Lv. 50.

There should be some sort of Gastro Acid there as well, to hit those with Sturdy, or are named Shedinja. :) Aaanyway~ how about this for a Smeargle set?

In all honesty other than Baton Pass which is all over this thread I can't see many applications for Smeargle. Although stuff like this can work, I guess:

• Smeargle @ Whatever
• Timid Nature
• 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Double Team / Cosmic Power / Ingrain
- Mean Look / Spider Web
- Spore
- False Swipe

Basically made to catch things. Sleep is the best catch modifier outside of Freezing, which is harder to make work. Mean Look or Spider Web is what stops the roaming Pokémon which is really what this is intended for completely dead. Cosmic Power or Double Team to give it some sort of survivability, or even Ingrain if you're up against a Roamer using Roar. False Swipe for maximum catch chance.


Tho the one I normally use is just a utility version:

• Smeargle @ lol.
• lol nature.
• lol evs.
- Rock Smash / whatever
- Fly
- Strength
- Cut / whatever

Change moveset with game. Also works with Mew if you want to use Mew for that for some strange reason. Or Dragonite. Or, iirc, Rayquaza for the most part.

I agree with some of your moveset. I would give smeargle a damp rock to hold, and swap substitute to raindance, so when you baton pass to a Magikarp with Swift Swim, it will be faster than other pokemon for nearly 8 turns, that should be enough to tackle or bounce your way through their teams.

I've actually been experimenting with a Smeargle's move set recently!
I haven't gotten to test him out yet, but the idea behind it was to paralyze the opponent without using the paralyze status.

He will have:
Disable
Attract
Encore
Headbutt (For damage and flinching.)

Hopefully I can train him to have high speed and accuracy.
