Do you think its going to similar to legends: arceus, or completley different?

  • I think pretty different. I don't expect the same Battle system or to throw pokeballs around in Luminose City. Maybe this is going to be more focused on missions and gathering materials, maybe.

It's part of the same "Legends" series, so it definitely should not be completely different. It should be the same core formula, with the gameplay elements from Legends Arceus that were well received, but hopefully improving on the areas where it lacked.

  • I'm hoping (like I posted somewhere else) that the advancement in the story isn't going to depend on Pokédex completion like Legends: Arceus was- especially with you having to do more to complete an entry than just catching a Pokémon. It was also obnoxious that you had to keep going back to Jubilife Village, rather than going from one location to the next- it wastes time and isn't very fun.

I hope they will keep the same gameplay elements, but I'm afraid they won't.
I think there is a possibility that the "legends" game are just remakes with a twist, and not necessarily the same twist on gameplay for each entry.
After all, they didn't keep mega evolution, z moves, etc between the main games.

    Nah

It's kinda hard to tell since we have so little information at the moment, and this is only the second Legends game. But I'd imagine it's not going to wildly different from PLA, otherwise why call it a Legends game? PLA did well enough for them to consider making another one, and so why deviate a lot from a successful model? And while PLA itself was something of a departure from the main series formula, Game Freak will likely not stray too far from PLA's base, given that the rest of the main series has fundamentally stayed the same for pretty much its entire existence.

My current expectation for what will be different about it though is that Dex completion will probably not be the main focus of the game. If the main idea behind the game is the re-development of Lumiose City into its current form (or something close to it anyway), Dex completion doesn't really fit into that to me. I imagine that it'll be something more like that most people, like in PLA, are not used to/not adept at dealing with Pokemon, but the player is one of the few who is, and so will act as the city's "pokemon specialist". We'll maybe be tasked with stuff like "we need this material for this project, but a Pokemon is guarding it, can you deal with it?", "we think that this Pokemon would be really helpful for this thing we're planning, could you get us one of those?", and so on.

but really, who knows at this point

  • I wonder if they'll alter the moves again like they did in Legends: Arceus- it was a bit confusing for me for a while that often the moves did something slightly or completely different from what they usually do. Also, the Strong Style vs. Agile Style thing was a bit obnoxious- an opposing Pokémon getting to use multiple moves before you can even make a second move was bothersome, and completely disrupted the battling that I was used to. Lower level Pokémon (like 10-30) being able to deal serious damage to your 50/60+ team members didn't help either.

Expects similar gameplay. Falls under the "Legends" banner. Ought to devise a new title for different gameplay.

Guesses largely no, given megas in the mix. Would not be surprised to see them test different mechanics for future mainline games, though. Speaks of something more of the vein of Frostbite, rather than Strong/Agile style.

  • It'll probably be similar in terms of gameplay but different in many ways. Like, I don't think Agile and Strong style are going to be returning, for example.

  • Please just let us still have abilities and held items, though. When I was playing it and first realised they had done that, I was thinking, 'What?! Didn't you learn the lesson from Let's Go Pikachu/Let's Go Eevee...?!

  • It'll probably have the same fundamental gameplay; but with many small changes. I just don't see LA full transferring over to a dense urban environment without at least a few alterations.

I quite liked having to go back to Jublife Village personally; it really helped me immerse in the story. I agree with you on the Strong vs. Agile though....that wasn't fun at all.

  • Honestly, I loved Legends Arceus so much. I know nowadays people complain a bit about the battle system and some other stuff, but...

My peak memories of playing Pokémon actually stem from a time in my life where I lived very rurally, and none of my friends or classmates really played Pokémon. So all the battling and trading and connecting that the series is famed for, was actually lost on me. The fun came from becoming 'king of the castle' in my own right, in my own game, with the resources available there. Nowadays with the internet it's much easier to connect, and that's fun too, but still - Legends Arceus captured that old nostalgic feeling for me, but intentionally, because it's designed as a single-player game from the ground-up. So I'll have no problem with Z-A being similar to Legends Arceus.

With that said, it's Game Freak. We used to complain about them being formulaic, but nowadays they insist on being the opposite of that, and ditch everything to make each new game nearly from scratch. So I'm expecting a very new experience, but I hope the core of what made LA good will also be present in LZ-A.
