Ooooh, interested!
Here are my top 10 finally!
And my thoughts on the rest of the songs below:
- San Morino - oh come on, San Morino this is just unfair. This is an absolute banger that is ticking ALL the boxes I want it to - it's got that chaotic Eurovision charm, the song itself is a really catchy metal banger and their overall vibe is fantastic. Definitely my favs to win!!!!
- Estonia - YEEEESSSSSSSS. This is so bonkers, I love it. But even better is that it's equal parts wild and musically good!
- Ireland - this is such an unorthodox pick for Ireland and I absolutely love it! Their general energy is great, the aesthetic is funky and unique and the music I am really enjoying. I hope this translates onto the stage really well, could be potential winner material if it does!
- Austria - I appreciate the commitment to age old adage that a lot of mainland European music is stuck in that 90s euro-house phase, this is a really energetic, punchy and powerful number!
- Azerbaijan - it's not super bad, but felt quite generic to me.
- Finland - Keep them coming! Again it's that hyperbolic goofiness that to me is one of the biggest draws of Eurovision. I will say that this is more akin to when the competition entries focused a little TOO much on just being as weird and wonderful as they could, perhaps at the expense of the actual song a little.
- Croatia - everything about this is so goofy and stupid and I am HERE FOR IT. The song itself is... strange. Very odd melodeath that doesn't want to quite fully commit, but the precipice of it all and the fact it's Baby Lasagna is the level of Eurovision charm I've been looking for! Can't wait to see what they do live.
- Czechia - I really enjoy this! Very powerful vocals and a really nice song, but it does feel a little different to some of the other female-fronted acts and that's what I think I enjoy about it the most. There's an almost Paramore-esque quality to it.
- Slovenia - something a little different! Again it seems to harken to that 90s house/disco era but with some modern flair, really enjoy this song.
- Ukraine - honestly this was super mid until the rap kicked in. Love it when an Eurovision entry throws curveballs like this!
Spoiler:
- Albania - this is generally a really nice song, although it does kinda lack that 'Eurovision Factor' that I like in an entry. Like it's not a BAD song, I just don't think it's a good EUROVISION song.
- Armenia - both a good song and really fun! It leans super hard into the traditional Armenian sound and I'm sure live this is going to be a really fun song to watch.
- Australia - a really cute yet powerful song, really loved the message in this one. Again, it's not quite got that Eurovision level of 'wow' for me, but a great song nevertheless.
- Belgium - interesting song, considering the title and how the song goes! I know there are many meanings to many things and whatnot, but this feels like there's a disconnect between the music and the title tbh.
- Cyprus - like a far few of these songs, again it's not a BAD song but nothing to be writing home about.
- Denmark - really strong entry from the Danes this year! A nice, powerful ballad. I don't think unfortunately it's winner material, but I like it nevertheless.
- France - super OK, super generic, super not interested.
- Georgia - yeah like this is a solid 7/10. That said, most of the stuff the song is doing is, well, overdone! Very predictable lyrical themes, stylistic choices, etc.
- Germany - I can understand pulling away from last year's act because of how poorly they did... but this is so boring!!!!
- Greece - this isn't too bad! It does feel a little like it is trying to embrace both serious and silly and as a result, doesn't really fit in either camp.
- Iceland - the song itself is great but... I don't know if it's just the particular video they used or what but those vocals were way off! Hoping future performances are a little better.
- Israel - I actually mistook this for about 4 different songs throughout, because it just... kinda doesn't have anything of its own really going for it. Not a bad song, but definitely middle of the pack at best.
- Italy - this has fun vibes! I think this will be fun on the stage.
- Latvia - yeah this is pretty good, a nice song for sure! Again, it kinda sits in that middle group of great songs that lack the Eurovision energy I want and don't bring enough of something else to the table.
- Lithuania - oh this is fun! I will say I was a little disappointed though when it felt like there'd be a buildup to something more crazy and then... there wasn't anything. A refreshing change to a lot of the ballads etc. though!
- Luxembourg - Mehhhhhhhh, this was OK.Malta - this is such a fun little hyperpop belter! Really enjoy listening to this, I hope it does well!
- Moldova - this is just a little too off the beat for me. The song itself doesn't actually have a huge amount going for it, but the violin breakdown is kinda cool.
- Netherlands - this is a really groovy song but... the lyrics are so wild?! From what I can gather it seems to go from happy to sad so quickly! Really wild how quickly it flips from one to the other, but the song is still great overall.
- Norway - oh I really love the overall vibe/aesthetic of this song and the group... unsure if it's really Eurovision material but I'll definitely be checking them out either way!
- Poland - it's another one of those "great song but not a great Eurovision" song I'm afraid! Which is a shame, I really love Polish pop music!
- Portugal - same as Poland and the rest of them I'm afraid...
- Serbia - at this point I'm just coming up with teh acronym GBNGE (Great But Not Great Eurovision), because so many songs are falling into that category for me this year!
- Spain - I guess there might be potential for a fun live performance but... otherwise the song is just really bad.
- Sweden - this kinda feels like 2 members of the Backstreet Boys tried to break off into an EDM duo... and failed. Not very exciting at all.Switzerland - speaking of acts trying to re-imagine themselves, this feels like Mika coming back into the EDM scene... and doing it right! Super high-energy song, sounds like it will be great on the stage.
- United Kingdom - GBNGE!!!!!!! But then I am mostly biased because I feel we mostly just suck at picking acts anyway olololol.
