]Daybreak City Center - 12:00AM, Wednesday 14th November

Daybreak City had always been a city teeming with pokémon - following around their trainers or locked quietly away in pokéballs as they may have been, everyone had their lives to get on with and pokémon were another part of that everyday life as they were just about everywhere else. But today was a little different. There wasn't a single human to be seen in Daybreak - or at least, none that wanted to be seen, but the pokémon were still about in abundance. The wild pokémon scoured the streets - searching for any of the humans that had escaped their first onslaught, that may still be hiding amongst the ruins.

The twelve chimes on the city center's once-majestic clock tower signalled that two hours had passed since the wilds had began their siege on Daybreak City. Most of what had been the city now seemed as if the pokémon had reclaimed it - most of the industrial sector was overgrown with weeds and vines the like never seen in the city, Dawn Grove - the most residential area of the city now sat beneath a small river with a current vicious enough to drag a person away to never be seen again and the city's center had become a veritable tundra - the fresh snow glittering beneath the stars and the new moon, even disguising some of the havoc in the town square beneath the soft white blanket.

Only two wild pokémon had remained to search for humans - One Abomasnow, who appeared to be the source of the razor-sharp shards of ice still falling from the sky and an Mamoswine whose mighty tusks could tear through the buildings that stood between it and its prey - none of whom stood a chance when they were exposed to the elements and the Abomasnow's storm, cut to ribbons by the creature as it placed its full attention on them.

Overall, things are looking pretty bad for you. You may even be questioning if it was good or bad fortune that you survived this far, but that doesn't matter - you've got a problem approaching you, and wherever you may be hiding, you'd best find a way to make sure it's not the last problem you face on Lunea.

    Thilas Verane
    Daybreak City

His feet hit the ground one after another as fast as they could, as Thilas Verane weaved in and out of the ruins of once proud buildings, trying to find a shelter from the penetrating ice. In one hand he clutched the bottom of his overcoat, holding it up above his head in a vain attempt to block the shards of ice falling from the sky, and in his other he held a PokeBall. Behind him, Tolbin the Toxicroak bounded through the streets, scouting for his human partner. It seemed like he had been out in the cold for hours, and he was considering resting in the ruins of a Pokemon Center, until he heard his Toxicroak cry out. Spinning around, he saw Tolbin pointing towards a medium sized building, roof intact.

"Great job, Tolbin. Now let's go, quickly." The two made it hastily inside the building, and as Thilas released his vice grip on his overcoat he saw that the mess that comprised the inside. Blood-strewn walls and ripped clothing coating the floors made for a very uninhabitable hideout, but he had no other choice. "We rest here for the night; I'll get Buster too stand lookout. In the morning, we look for a god damn way out of here." Tolbin nodded in agreement, his battle scarred face easing up in relief.

Thilas pressed the button on his PokeBall, releasing his companion inside; Buster the Doublade. Buster unsheathed his blades the moment he was released, furiously blinking his eyes. He was already alert.

"Settle down, Buster. This is where we're camping for the night. Stand guard, okay buddy?" Buster nodded, spinning around to face the two doors at the front of the room. Thilas' eyes darted towards the stairs in the corner, shrouded in darkness, before relocating them back on Buster. "Although I don't think I'll be sleeping much tonight."

As he pressed his back to the wall and slowly slumped down towards the ground to rest, he heard the faint roar of a Mamoswine echo from outside...

    Daybreak City

Elsewhere in Daybreak, a young woman was making her way through the city's industrial sector, her moments deliberate so as not to attract attention to herself. As she moved, Allison Rowe found herself thinking back to what had led to this unfortunate circumstance she had found herself in – how only two hours ago she had been visiting a calm, peaceful community. Now, just past the cusp of midnight, she couldn't believe just how much the place had transformed.

The factories and other buildings around her had once stood tall and proud. Since the siege of the wilds however, many of them lay in ruins. Bricks and dry motar had fallen to the ground, cracked into pieces from the impact of hitting the pavement. Also strewn about were the broken glass shards of windows, several pieces long and sharp enough to badly lacerate anyone who was unfortunate to find themselves directly upon them.

As well, it seemed as if this particular part of Daybreak was turning into an urban jungle; weeds sprouted up out of the roads and sidewalks, large and thick enough to block much of the asphalt and concrete. Meanwhile, vines snaked across walls and through cracks and windows, most of them long and thick. None of the plants were any that Allison was familiar with, however.

"All this scene is missing now are a grove of trees and a few Mankey and Weepinbell," the young trainer thought to herself, trying to find some humor in this bleak situation. Her effort was to no avail, for when one can see blood staining the walls crimson everywhere she looks, one cannot easily find anything funny about it.

"And yet again, I remember how much I suck at being funny."

Following close behind her was her Pokémon, Kane. The Arcanine kept a strong vigilance throughout their, hopefully short, travels, watching and listening for anything that could pose a threat. The fire-type quickly leapt over the jagged surface of what had once been a wall and trodded to his trainer.

A low whimpering combined with a wet nose brushing against her arm got Allison's attention. She looked down at her Arcanine and placed a comforting hand upon his head. "Yeah, I'm scared too, Kane. But don't worry, we'll get out of this mess."

Here she glanced off to the side, unsure of her own words. "I hope…"

    Sang Glass
    Daybreak City

Tch. What a fine mess he'd gone and landed himself in. It was cold, hailing razor-sharp shards, there were pokémon out there that definitely wanted to kill him. So, he was bundled up in his clothing, thanking whatever higher power there was that he hadn't made like some of the younger trainers and bared his skin. Idly, he wondered if any other trainers had survived past the first attack - he'd been lucky - he'd been busy breaking and entering at the time.

Probably not the most honourable ways to survive an apocalypse, but he had survived, for now, anyway. How long he was going to survive in the ice storm was difficult to approximate - the shards weren't getting inside just yet, and the building had already been attacked, judging by the rather large hole in the thing, so whilst he was somewhat confident that he'd be ignored for a time, they'd certainly make another sweep sometime.

So, the issue was, how to get out? He could try to sneak away, but he'd probably just get shredded by the ice storm, or he could try and use the aid of a pokémon, in which case he'd either draw a whole lot of attention, and get dragged into an unwanted battle, or even attract the attention of other Lunean pokémon, and make things worse for everybody involved.

    Hmm...

What he needed was a way to create a distraction, without risking his life, or his pokémon... Now, it would have been useful if the young woman who had been with him had survived... As it was, she'd run out into the elements to go capture the 'naughty pokémon', as she'd put it. As things were, Sang was under the impression that tiny pieces of her corpse were littering the snow.

As for himself, Sang's current plan was to watch and wait, and take appropriate action when he was forced to, and not before. Every second he was hiding, he was alive, and as long as he was alive, he stood some small chance of getting rescued, or surviving whatever it was that was starting. Not that he was holding out a lot of hope for that.

They were all spiralling down towards oblivion, after all, and the only comfort they had was that everybody else was, too.

    Thilas Verane
    Daybreak City

Death. Whenever Thilas Verane closed his eyes, all he saw was death. Not more than a couple of hours ago, Thilas was seated in his home with his parents and their Pokemon, blissfully unaware of the impending chaos that was fast approaching. Now, when he closed his eyes, all he saw was death. The death of his parents at the hands of a horde of vicious Piloswine, commanded by the gargantuan Mamoswine that still patrolled Daybreak City, intent on finding all remaining survivors. In his head, he could still see how they ripped his parents to shreds, not even giving their Pokemon a chance to defend their masters. Thilas had escaped, just, being dragged out of the building by Tolbin, Buster safe inside of his Pokeball. They had ran, and ran, for what seemed like decades, until they reached the Industrial Sector of the city. What was once a vibrant, busy production area was now, for lack of a better word, a jungle. It took them quite a while to find their desired hiding spot, but Tolbin had always been good at that sort of thing.

And now here they were. Thilas had attempted sleep, but the effort was fruitless. With Buster on guard duty, and Tolbin sleeping steadily in the corner of the dilapidated building, Thilas rose to his feet, stretching his tight, sore body. Outside was still blistering cold, and knife like shards of ice dropped from the sky, intent on doing damage to any exposed skin they could find. After glancing over at the front door of the room, and then at Buster, Thilas rested on the one windowsill that the two story building had on offer downstairs. Wiping away condensation with his hand, he sighed. Was there any other form of life out there? Was he on his own? He could swear that, not too far off in the distance, he could make out the faint shape of a human, and a rather large canine...

    Davey Thomas - Daybreak City

Davey took a glance of what was left of Daybreak City. He had put his life on the line for this city, and to see all of it go to waste was very disheartening for Davey. He found him self sifting through the ready to collapse husk of a communications building, searching for higher ground. Davey would need a viewpoint to find the best route of escape, and he wasn't just going to die in Daybreak as many had done. It was time to cut his losses. Davey climbed up onto a desk, and stared up through a hole in the celing. Davey took a leap for the hole, and managed to get a hold of the floor above. He struggled to push himself up onto the next floor, but he managed to haul himself through the break and onto the next floor. Davey checked his surroundings, all clear. Davey slowly stepped through the hollow remains of the building, keeping his eyes open.

Davey noticed a large vine growth hanging in front of a window, and Davey spawned an idea. The vine looked thick enough to attempt a climb, and it could potentially lead to the roof. With no other visible way to get any more distance from ground level, Davey took position beside the window, and smashed it open, exposing him to the elements. There was a large group of heavy clouds, producing a heavy snowstorm on the ground below it, as if it was being guided by something. What that thing was, Davey could only guess. Bad news was, it was coming slowly towards Davey. Looking at the vine, he put one hand on the vine, and gave it a tug. The roots felt steady and the vine wasn't slimy. Davey put his other hand on the vine, and began his ascent. The winds bumped Davey into the side of the building, and pushed him side to side. This wasn't and easy climb, but nothing on the road ahead would be easy for Davey. He looked up, and saw the vines extending all the way towards the roof of the building. Davey breathed a sigh of relief, as he kept climbing. Seeing the vines reach the roof gave Davey an extra boost of energy, as he scaled the vine much quicker now.

The snow storm drew closer, and the clouds were at Davey's eye level. Davey hadn't gotten any sleep yet, and he was starting to feel the effects. He had contemplated sleeping somewhere in the building, but Davey muttered to himself,

" You can sleep when you're dead."

That was enough to get Davey to climb up to the roof, and he laid down on the roof, and let out a sigh of relief.

    Angelica Baxter
    Ice Storm in Daybreak City

Meanwhile, with heavy breaths, Angelica peeked from the alley she was hiding from. She saw the roaming Mamoswine march past her as the air started to get colder and colder. She would have gotten out her pokeballs, but she was just too cold, and that Mamoswine was in rage. He stomped and let out a roar. I don't even know how this happened in the first place. It doesn't matter anyway, I've been through worse. Much worse. But it's best if I at least try to find a way out. As she was lost in thought, the Mamoswine stopped doing whatever he was doing and went back towards where Angelica was hiding. As she looked for an escape route to flee, she saw on the other side of the abandoned street a man hunched over a car. As she continued to observe him, the Mamoswine approached them and went towards the man.

The man must have seen Angelica because he was about to open his mouth but then the Mamoswine roared in fury and charged towards the car. Taking this chance, Angelica exited the alley and ran away from the two slowly. The storm is starting to get worst but she ran. As she heard the man's screams, she stopped and wanted to go back, but she shook her head. Come on. Get a grip on yourself. You don't even know the guy, plus he's a goner. You were lucky to survive the attacks for now, so get going. As Angelica continued her get away, she heard a faint roar behind her. She didn't dare look back as she carried on with her conquest of escaping. As the roar approached closer, she gulped as she recognized that one; her good old friend Mamoswine.

She tried to go faster but the snow and the hail was slowing her down. Then she heard another cry and then it swept her off her feet. As she hit the ground, she saw the Mamoswine trying to get on top of her. She rolled over as the giant foot shadowed her. Without hesitation, she ran for her life and left the raging Mamoswine behind her. I'm not going to get out of her alive by foot. What I need is a pokemon. Specifically... Angelica drew out a pokeball to her far left and opened it.

    "I need your help Flare!"

As Angelica summoned her Flareon, the Mamoswine looked at them and charged towards them. Flareon came forward, knowing what to do. Then she started to dig a hole in the snow big enough for Angelica and her. She warmed up the snow with Flare Blitz and finally managed to make a break for it. Both of them jumped in as the Mamoswine was upon them. He roared in fury and started to shake the ground as Flareon continued to dig her way.

"I think my new motto should be 'Only one Mamoswine attack per day,'" Angelica mumbled.

Okay. It was clear he couldn't stay here any longer. The cries of the ice-types outside were starting up loudly again, so Sang could only conclude that they'd found another victim. The time to act was now or never. Good thing all this time sitting around freezing to death allowed him to formulate a plan. Not much of a plan, admittedly, but a plan nevertheless.

Pulling a scratched red sphere from inside his coat, Sang tossed it into the air, releasing a great deal of red light. As it turned out, Steelix was just a little big for the house that it'd been released into: it broke the second floor with its head, and Sang could hear the remaining roof tiles pinging off like popcorn.

    "'23, dig!"

The Steelix did just that, being loyal to its master, however awful such a loyalty was, and it rammed it's head into the earth, pointed sections of its body beginning to rotate, and eventually disappearing into the earth below the house. Probably wasn't very good for the foundations, but the makeshift tunnel still seemed more appealing than the rain of icy knives to the face. So, he followed his pokémon into the tunnel, rather hoping it wouldn't collapse on his head.

    "Head away from the ice."

    So Close, Yet So Far

    Flashback 1: Tuesday 13

That Tuesday afternoon, everything started out like normal. People and pokemon were happily playing around, and absorbing the beauty around the peace and quiet. From there, you could see a lone girl walking beside her Flareon, but she wasn't there to relax in Daybreak City. Instead, Angelica Baxter approached this city because she had business to take care of in the region of Lunea. Only living in this region for a couple of years, Angelica felt that life could actually improve. Then again, anything was better than Mauville City back at Hoenn. But still, she felt that moving into a new region could mean a fresh start, a new beginning. Sadly, this was the exact place to confront things of the past.

As she and her pokemon, Flareon, walked up on the street, Angelica was clutching a letter in her hands so tightly that one more squeeze could make the paper shred apart. With an uneasy feeling inside of her, she continued to her destination. She finally approached to a huge, sturdy, white mansion with in the front the most graceful sight of flowers and trees that brag their glory. Sure what separated her from this was a tall black fence, but she couldn't believe her eyes. Even her Flareon let out a cheer at this, but Angelica knew better. She loosened her grip on the letter and read it.

"Yep Flareon, this is definitely the place," Angelica said with a sigh that followed.

Then she walked over to the right and found a security keypad. Using the letter, she typed in the code and then the fence opened up.

    Back to Present

As Flare continued to dig, Angelica was trying to keep calm and closed her eyes to prevent the dirt getting in her eyes; after all, she was underground. As she saw her poor Flareon exhaust even more, the roaring above them steadily increase. As more earthquakes happened, ice shards came inside and attack the two inside. Now completely tired, Flareon stopped her digging and laid down, closing her eyes. Oh well. This wasn't a good idea to start off with anyway... As she sighed, she returned Flareon back. The Mamoswine from the outside continued to roar in fury. Why is this pokemon wasting his time on me again? Instead of standing there, Angelica took action. She drew out another pokeball.

"I could use your assistance Buddy!"

Her proud Torterra came out, but shuddered as the cool air came inside of their underground hole.

"So Buddy, mind bashing us out of here?"

Torterra backed up on the space he was given and bashed through the earth, not letting the earthquakes distracting him. Angelica ran after him, glad from being relieved of that horrid Mamoswine. The Torterra bashed so hard until he started to slow down from exhaustion. She summoned him back and decided to dig herself up. Might as well save the others for later, no? So then she dug up and up until she felt the snow in her hands. She decided to push harder until she made it back into the cold surface. As she pulled herself out, she noticed the ice storm was stronger here than where she was. Before she could do anything, she heard a cry, but it was definitely not a Mamoswine. She saw a tall figure approach to her, she could distinguish who it was. Most importantly, who was causing this storm: Abomasnow.

    Allison Rowe
    Daybreak City

Allison and Kane continued on their way, looking for a place to hide out. The trainer found herself having to constantly pull away vines and weeds away from her path, the leaves brushing against her bare shoulders. The ensuing itchiness from this made her wish that she had worn a shirt that actually had sleeves on it. Kane fared better with his thick coat of fur, though at one point Allison looked behind her and noticed an expression of discomfort on the Pokémon's face.

Allison let out a deep sigh. "So, which building do you think would be the best for us to hide out in?"

Her Arcanine glanced around, not sure which one would be the best. Truth be told, with the way the few standing structures looked like they were going to fall at any moment, Kane wasn't too sure if any of them would be safe. There was this one two story building that was relatively well-intact however…

The dog gently tugged at the bottom of his trainer's shirt in the direction of the edifice. Allison looked towards the building and nodded in agreement. "Well, it'll be good for at least the rest of the night. Might as well give it a try. But first…"

Allison reached into her pocket and pulled out a Pokeball, which she tossed into the air. It opened up to reveal a powerful Luxray. Electricity crackled around his body and thick black mane as he let out a roar. His trainer tried to quiet him down.

"Shh! Strahl! Keep it down! We don't want anyone to know we're here," she told him in a harsh whisper. Strahl took a glance around the area, whereupon he noticed just what kind of situation they were in. The lion let out a low growl, electricity continuing to crackle around his mane. Allison crouched down to his level.

"Relax Strahl. We'll find a way to get through this. For now though, I need you to do something for me. Could you check to see if there are any wild Pokémon in that building over there."

Strahl turned his attention in the direction his trainer pointed and gave a quick grunt of acknowledgement. The Luxray's eyes began to glow as he used a well-known skill of his species – x-ray vision. He scanned the building, looking for anything of interest, his tail lightly flicking back and forth.

Digging away. It seemed like a solid enough plan, but it had a very severe miscalculation. The Mamoswine merely watched as the two Trainers did their best to escape their situation by causing varying degrees of property damage - seemingly waiting for them to go underground. But as soon as it did, the intention became clear...

    Mamoswine used Earthquake!

Raising one mighty leg, the mammoth pokémon crashed its whole weight down on one foot, shaking the foundation of a few more buildings in the center and finally finishing off the pokémon center itself, collapsing in a cloud of grey concrete dust. Worse still would be the knock-on effect in the tunnels - Not only would they feel the full impact of the quake from underground... but the integrity of their tunnels themselves would be compromised... the collapses would begin at the entrances and it is no fun way to die to be crushed and suffocated beneath the earth, let me assure you... Escape had to be fast.

    Bringing It Down

Before Angelica could even flinch, she felt a powerful earthquake that sucked her back into the hole she was in and this time, buildings collapsed on top of her. Luckily, her Torterra was not with her as she felt her oxygen was cutting off. Seriously? I didn't come all the way out here to die. As Angelica coughed from the debris underneath, she widen her eyes. Shoot. My oxygen is getting cut off, maybe from all this on top of me. I need to get out quick. She started to slow down her breaths until she was steady and curled herself up in a ball.

"Torterra! Bash me out of here, will you?"

She heard her pokemon roar from the outside as he bashed into the debris. It was on ram to another, until finally, he made a hole where she could crawl out from. She released herself from the position and started her way back up. She squeezed herself in the escape and crawled up. Not the best way to escape out of here, but it's better than the alternative that was waiting for me anyway. It sure was warm down there though... Angelica felt she was getting closer to the surface due to there being more air to breathe in and the cold was coming back stronger. She could feel her arms going numb, but she pushed herself up until she was back onto the surface.

Buddy the Torterra was waiting for her up there and used his tail to help Angelica up and the last minute. She shuddered as she reached the tail and grabbed onto it. As Torterra pulled her up, Angelica began to wonder. After that earthquake, could anyone else be out there? Then again, if I'm alive, then someone else can be too, right? As she finally made it up, she starred at the surface and the destruction.

    Sang Glass
    Daybreak City

Tch. There was always something, wasn't there? As the rumbling in the makeshift tunnel grew louder, and pieces of the tunnel began to crumble and collapse, Sang worked his hands around the end of his Steelix's tail.

    "23, up!"

The Steelix roared its assent, the sound defeating in the enclosed - and steadily more enclosing - space. It seemed an eternity, to the one-eyed trainer, of watching the mud rain down around him, in the half-darkness, clinging onto a metal tail and hoping no stones scythed down to cleave his head. No such thing happened, thankfully, and they reached the surface in time, the Steelix letting out another roar.

Seemed like his plan for a subtle escape had failed, then. Well, there was just one other way out, then. Straight through the pokémon trying to kill him. He produced the second pokéball of the day from his clothing, clicking it open, and releasing another of his pokémon: Milotic.

"12, you're on ice shard watch - prevent it from hitting me at any cost. Aqua Ring, and Hydro Pumps," He turned from the fish-serpent at his side, to the steel serpent in front of him, "23, Rock Polish, and then Heavy Slam when one of those freaks shows themselves."

His plan was not subtle or clever: but it was probably rather suited to his Pokémon's strengths, Steelix especially. Apparently running and hiding was simply going to send him to an early grave, so he was simply going to destroy what was out there instead.

Could he do it on his own? Debatable. Sang was rather hoping that some other trainers had weakened the ice-types somewhat for him. Seemed like it was fight or die now. Not like he was going to get far otherwise...
