    Mind Read the Room

What is Mind Read the Room?
A survey-based game about your experiences and thoughts about Pokemon. Scores players based on how well they predict how everyone answered. Wins by accumulating the most points after the results of all fifteen questions.

Ran this game once before here, if you wish to see an example. Tweaked it a hair from last time, but not too much.

How many points do you earn for your team in the Get-Together?
    • 1st place: 20 points
    • 2nd place: 15 points
    • 3rd place: 10 points
    • All other participants: 5 points

When is the deadline for entering?
Split the questions into three sections: Yes/No Questions, Multiple Choice, and Short Response. Assigned each of them separate deadlines.

    • Yes/No Questions: October 12th at 11:59 PM EST
    • Multiple Choice Questions: October 15th at 11:59 PM EST
    • Short Response Questions: October 18th at 11:59 PM EST

Feel free to complete them all at once, or as you are able.

    Where do you submit answers?

Option 1: Through Google Forms. Split them into one for each section. Does not require you to submit an e-mail address or sign-in. Enabled the option to edit answers prior to the deadline. (May need to sign in to edit, though. Lacks experience with Google Forms.)

Link to the Yes/No Questions Google Form
Link to the Multiple Choice Questions Google Form
Link to the Short Response Questions Google Form

Please post here once you have submitted your answers through Google Forms, also. Prevents hooligans from impersonating others.

Option 2: Via private message (to Devalue). Please include which team you are on.

Listed all the questions and instructions below. Please give honest answers and do not share your answers with others until revealed.

For transparency: Answered all of these questions and submitted predictions, as the host. Earns no Get-Together points as the host, however.

    Yes/No Questions

Submits two things per question in this section: your answer and your prediction. May choose one of the following options for your prediction on how everyone answered:
    • More than 50% Yes. Earns 2 points if correct.
    • More than 75% Yes. Earns 4 points if correct.
    • More than 50% No. Earns 2 points if correct.
    • More than 75% No. Earns 4 points if correct.
    • Contested. Earns 5 points if 40% to 60% answer "Yes".

A sample submission for Question 1:
    Code:
    1. Answer: Yes.
    Prediction: More than 50% No.

    Short Response Questions

    Scoring:

    • Predicting the second most popular answer: 3 points
    • Predicting the third most popular answer: 1 point

A sample submission for Question 13:
    Code:
    13. Answer: Treecko, Turtwig, and Piplup
    Prediction: Treecko, Empoleon, and Snivy

    _____________

    13. Which Pokemon species introduced in Generations 3 through 5 do you think would sell for the most money? Please select three different Pokemon species that are not considered legendary or mythical.

    14. Which two Pokemon trainers do you think care the most about their Pokemon?

Accepts any official trainer, including ones from the anime, manga, and any game.

    15. Meets with Looker (the international police officer) for an important mission. Tasks you with infiltrating the Rocket Hideout beneath Celadon City's Game Corner. Seeks critical information from the database there. Gains the most benefit by swiping it without anyone there knowing. Stresses stealth, not destroying all trainers in your way. May be forced to use force tactically, however.

Supplies you with the following items:
    - One Team Rocket uniform
    - A rough map of the hideout's layout.
    - A USB stick with a Rotom inside.
    - Three non-legendary, non-Mythical Pokemon of your choice from Generations 1 and 2.

Search for a computer with high-level access, likely on one of the lowest floors. Insert the USB stick into it. Let Rotom do the rest. May take 30 minutes to complete. Be sure to take the USB stick with Rotom once it finishes.

Which three Pokemon from Generations 1 and 2 do you request?

  • Ok so from what I've garnered reading this... I love this event. It sounds incredible and it's the first time it's been done for the GT! A few things:

    - Your points distribution, to clarify, is 10 points to every person who takes part and then an extra 15/10/5 to 1st/2nd/3rd? I like this system a lot, however I am wondering if we drop the participant points down to 5, because as opposed to the Trivia section this may garner a lot more people. That, or is there perhaps some form of requirement you could impose to earn the participation points? At least then, people won't just be thrown at the event, not properly participate and then we end up with inflated points counts for minimal effort, which isn't great for the GT and your event.
    - I appreciate some of this is explanation/examples for us, but I would definitely advise contracting some of the rules etc. if you can, just to make sure it's easy for everyone digest and understand.

Otherwise, I think this is a great idea!

    Fair points.

Cut down on some of the rule specifics and clarifications. Grew a bit tired of listing what mainline games were all the time anyways. (Kept the first instance in there. Suffices.)

Knocked down the point spread to:
    • 1st place: 20 points
    • 2nd place: 15 points
    • 3rd place: 10 points
    • All other participants: 5 points
Could also set a minimum score (like, 10 points or so) for participation instead too. Scored between 18 and 30 points in the first game with one less question. Might encourage collusion if it gets close at the end, though. Runs that risk in plenty of games, in fairness.

I think this setup looks like it will work, will wait for the go-ahead from GP in case he has any questions, but I think that will be OK for me.

Spruced up the post with basic CSS. Lifted 90% of it from elsewhere. Opted for solid color backgrounds rather than images. Visually separates the sections more clearly, on top of being simpler than finding images.

  • This event looks all good to me (although I'll take a look at the text CSS cause that's still appearing weird on my theme)
