Why not check out the Team Discussions subforum in Emulation if you want to poke around and help others out? :-3 Quite a lot of our aspiring hackers are asking for help there and you'll find plenty to keep you occupied. People look for scripters, mappers, sprite artists, and all that jazz so I'm sure you'll find a position that suits you well enough. And welcome to the forum, of course!
If hacking is your primary interest here then you definitely won't be disappointed given how much PC has to do in that regard. There are so many good hacks to play and tools to utilize to create your own so it's no surprise that the Emulation board here is so popular. :o
