Except Discord likes to put a hellolaoloalaloakl0al oaloa loaloaloalLOT more in your way. Especially if the server has some bloody verification requirement.
And it does NOT allow for better organization "than just about anywhere else" because Telegram (2gb upload limit per file for FREE!!!111) introduced a sub-chat system a good while ago, Matrix (Self-hosted and meant to be universal) matches discord one-to-one in actual functionality and features that matters, and if we're talking as a file host, Google Drive, OneDrive and MEGA (my personal favourite) all have a little something called FOLDERS.
Need to keep multiple versions (also don't want to use any public git host ever)? Cloud storage folders. Want to keep things private? Don't share it to the outside world!
Better idea, share the direct download publicly, and people, both those getting and those staying, don't have to be bothered with joining, downloading, and leaving.
This whole thing seems to reek of sheer narcissism for the "server owner" (chatroom owner, not even that, more like sub-admin) wanting to inflate user numbers.
It's not necessary. It was proven that it wasn't by previous edits of the thread having the link to the newest version directly on the forum post. This is an artificially created problem for dumb reasons.
Why are you defending this stupid practice anyway, and with such weak points? If you want to act decent, you'd just share the direct download, and accept that people don't want to deal with privacy issues and having to verify everything.
All three of the chatting applications run in browser, so I could also run discord in browser, but I don't even want to do THAT, it's just THAT TOXIC.
