  • My favourite rom hack of all time and the first one I've completed <3

Is there any chance you could share the songtable location? I've tried having a look in Sappy and tried the location for both vanilla and Squeetz but neither played the new songs so I'm assuming they're somewhere else?

And I noticed you said your Sappy won't assemble on Windows 10. I have no problem with mine.

(If OP doesn't read this. Anyone else know how I'd find the songtable?)

I'm calling it now, before i've played, and i'm pretty sure that I'm going to be entertaininly wrong, But here's my guess: Daisy's gonna be the 5th gym leader.

Unto this day, this is my favorite Pokémon ROM hack.

I really love this game. But... I would like to improve really specific minor things, and then I think that no other Pokémon game could beat this one for ever...

I'm looking for a guide for this game. Do you have one?
This hack was developed from 2012-2014, and then it was canceled. Four years later in 2018, someone named hacksrepairman continued the hack from where it left off and finished it. Then I added some "finishing touches" to hacksrepairman's work (and some graphical updates from MrDollSteak), and this hack is now completely finished. Although the final version is not quite what would have been had this hack been finished in 2014, it fits pretty close to my vision at the time. I am warning you though, this hack can be very edgy and ridiculous at times, I was quite immature back then.

    Credits for 2018 update:
Chaos Rush - finishing touches (and original hack developer from 2012-2014)
hacksrepairman - for finishing the hack's development from where it left off at Beta 2
    MrDollSteak - Seafoam Islands tileset

    Original post used from 2012-2014:

    Spoiler:

2018 Note: I am not proud of this hack, I am rather ashamed of it, but I know that it has a lot of fans that wanted to see it finished, so I hope you all enjoy it. Please note that this final version does not represent my exact vision for it during 2012-2014, although it is pretty close.

    Timeline of Hack's Development:
August 2012: Pokémon DarkViolet began development

    January 2013: First alpha release

October 2013: Beta 1 release (up to 3 badges)

January 2014: Beta 2 release (up to 7 badges)

May 2014: Pokémon DarkViolet was canceled

May 2018: hacksrepairman finished remainder of the hack

August 2018: Chaos Rush adds finishing touches (along with some contributions from MrDollSteak and hacksrepairman) and final version of the hack is released

April 2019: hacksrepairman released a bug fix (check this post if you are playing on a real console)

I would like to improve really specific minor things, and then I think that no other Pokémon game could beat this one for ever...

List them and perhaps someone like [hacksrepairman] can apply them and make a new patch.

    Pokémon Unbound
    DvAZCkX.png
    Introduction
Hello Pokécommunity, my name is Skeli and this is my one and only ROM Hack. I began ROM Hacking seriously in 2016, and since then I've written various ASM routines, created the Dynamic Pokemon Expansion for FireRed, and created the Complete FireRed Upgrade alongside ghoulslash.
After much time, I am proud to announce that Pokemon Unbound is finally ready. There are now two fully-featured versions available:
    • The first is the main game, a story driven game with complex puzzles designed to test the limits of your patience and perseverance. Once you clear the main campaign, there is also a significant amount of post-game content to enjoy for weeks to come.
    • The second, known as the Battle Frontier Demo, showcases Unbound's battle engine by granting unrestricted access to the Battle Frontier. This version was created in the format of a mobile game; meaning daily rewards, monthly distributions, and unlimited playtime. If you enjoy battling, then you'll find no shortage of things to do with the over 100 different possible battle combinations. For a fair battling experience, I recommend this version over the main game's Insane difficulty - a difficulty designed around unfair challenges.
With that being said, enjoy Pokemon Unbound!

    Story
Welcome to the Borrius Region, a region rich in history. Many years ago the Borrius region fought a brutal war with the Kalos region. The people of the Borrius region summoned a dark force to help them defeat their enemies; however, the war ended in defeat when the king of the Kalos region unleashed the ultimate weapon. With the war over, the dark force was sealed away never to be used again. Many years later, an organization known simply as "The Shadows" seems bent on releasing the dark force once again. It's up to you to stop them and save the Borrius region from ultimate destruction.

    Features
    • A Powerful Engine: Pushing the Complete FireRed Upgrade to its maximum potential, Pokemon Unbound contains a custom battle engine on par with Gen 8, as well as many quality of life features that improve the gameplay experience just waiting to be found. Enjoy catching all of your favourite Pokemon, from Gen 1 up to Gen 7, while using all of your favourite moves and abilities from each of these generations!
    • Features Galore: Pokemon Unbound is also chock full of features to enjoy, such as Unlimited Bag Space, Auto-Run, DexNav, Daily Raids, Inverse Battles, and much more!
    • A New HM System: Have access to all of your favourite HMs without the hassle of carrying HM slaves! As long as your Pokemon can learn an HM, they will be able to use it in the overworld, and once you purchase the brand new key item - the ADM in the post-game, enjoy battling with all six Pokemon from your favourite team regardless of the HMs they can learn!
    • Updated Graphics: Sporting Gen 4 graphics in the overworld and Gen 5-esqe interfaces, in addition to a dynamic day and night system, Pokemon Unbound has a brand new, yet familiar feel! You're not in Kanto anymore!
    • Difficulty Modes: Choose from up to four different difficulty modes! Ranging from Easy to Insane, you can either sit back and relax or get your teeth kicked in by a completely brand new AI system!
    • A Unique Mission System: Pokemon Unbound contains over 75 unique Missions to complete! Mission progress can be tracked using the new Mission Log, in addition to extra details, such as which items have been found in collectathons!
    • Character Customization: Choose from up to 300 different combinations of skin tones, hair colours, and outfit colours! Unleash your fashion sense!
    • Daily Events: There are plenty of events all over Borrius, many of which can be experienced daily, and some can only be found at certain points in the day! Play throughout the day to experience them all!
    • Exciting Mini-Games: Play exciting mini-games such as Safari Sniper and Underground Mining!
    • Challenging Puzzles: Put your brain to the test, and find ways to solve many of the unique and complex puzzles littered throughout Borrius!
    • A Rich Post-Game: Spend hours after the main campaign battling in Pokemon Unbound's battle facilities, completing Missions, mining in the KBT Expressway, catching Legendary Pokemon, and so much more!
    • A Custom OST: Enjoy over 50 unique songs composed for Pokemon Unbound, each as brilliant as the last!

I successfully patched it and then tried to play it on my emulator but it keeps playing distorted noises and is on a white screen, I switched to real time clock and flash 128k but it still won't work. What am I doing wrong?

What gen mechanics are in play for this? I wanted to ask since you said this is ment to be more of a gen 1 experiance than anything else. But some mechanics from later gens are usually a package deal with what has been mentioned in the opening post. To be more specific are there things like ability capsules or the nature mints? If not thats ok, I want to be sure.

EDIT: Also are movepools also up to gen 8 standards?

The original release was roughly late Gen V. Make of that what you will - hacksrepairman did not add any new mechanics.

So, expect PSS, some Gen V abilities and ability changes, I think this predated repel system...

    EDIT: Oh, and no Fairies.

I gotcha, though the repel system was started in gen 5 as a helpful note. I only ask because I dont like how hidden power worked before gen 6 due to the base power being randomized from gens 2-5 to name one personal issue and the movepools of certain pokemon (Like my favorite, venusaur lacking Earth Power) wil remain lackluster. Still I'll play this its a good premise.

  • I started Playing this after ages, and I'm a little confused. I decided to catch myself a Machop because I vaguely recall Machamp having No Guard in this game. The Machop I caught has guts instead. Do I have to look explicitly for a Machop with the No Guard ability or does one with guts eventually evolve into No Guard.

  • Sorry to doubles post, but does anybody have an idea as to what level Abra evolves to Kadabra? I caught a level 19 one, but upon levelling it to 20, the evolution cut scene is not triggered. Ibtried accessing the evolution guide, but it says the file does not exist. :/

  • Congratulations! Chaos Rush. I'm so happy to see one of my favorite hacks have won.

Thank you for reporting the glitches. Now I have fixed most glitches you mentioned except for the following ones:
    Spoiler:

To fix these, I'll have to rewrite the whole script(or completely change the maps/tiles), that may cause some new glitches(Even the chance is slim), I don't think it's worth it, so I decided to leave them alone.

As for the Flash Cannon glitch, it only happens when you play the game with Mgba and real consoles. I know, it's pretty annoying, I mean, why a rom hack can't be played on real consoles? It makes no sense. So, I have made a small patch to get rid of the broken Flash Cannon animation, I'm sure many people will need it.

Here's the main patch of the freshly fixed version of Pokemon Dark Violet:
    https://www.mediafire.com/file/7sv1bdyoq4b98b2/PokemonDarkVioletFinal2018V1Fixed.zip/file

Here's the patch for the Flash Cannon animation, it's for people who want to play this game on real consoles(Do make sure to patch it on a patched rom of Pokemon Dark Violet):
    https://www.mediafire.com/file/a1ejzoi4mix21pz/PokemonDarkVioletFinalMoveFix.ips/file

I hope what I'm doing now can make more people know how good this hack is.

Hey Hacksrepairman man! I just came across am oddity. Sucker punch doesn't activate when an opposing Pokémon uses the move Brain Freeze.
