    Introduction

Hello trainers, and welcome to the Illumia Region!

The Illumia Region is the combination of several ideas I had many many years ago when I enjoyed creating fantasy worlds and building societies within them. I didn't start playing with the idea of a Pokémon region until I saw the overlap between my worlds and Pokemon regions.

The general idea of Illumia is based on the duality of light and dark. The region is divided into 2 main islands, which in a way represent light and dark, with the mountain being the symbol of light on one island, and the sprawling forest being the symbol of dark on the other one.

    About Illumia

The Illumia Region is a cool, windy region. It is composed to two main islands along with several smaller islands which have broken off from the mainland over the centuries. The first main island, Lustria is home to Mt. Valian, a symbol of light and prosperity in the region. The other main island, Nocturia, is home to the Tempora Forest, an ancient and mysterious forest where shadow Pokemon are said to live. While Mt. Valian is climbed daily, nobody has set foot in the Tempora Forest in centuries out of fear of the unknown within.

Illumia was originally settled by the people of Sinnoh centuries ago while they were searching for good sources of lumber. Eventually seeing that life was easily sustainable on the islands, they decided to settle there for good.
Illumia's main source of income is from the lumber industry. The soil in the region is perfect for all kinds of trees, which grow exceptionally fast in Illumia. Minor sources of income come from fishing ,farming, and mining.
    [a id]geology[/a id]

    Lustria

The majority of Illumians live on the island of Lustria. Soil perfect for a variety of flora, amazing fishing spots, and a mountain filled with a variety of minerals, life is good for the residents of Lustria. Not many people leave for Nocturia or the smaller islands because of this. Mt. Valian splits the island in two for the most part, and there are no routes that connect the sides, so residents primarily rely upon using Flying Pokemon or the famed Illumian Balloon Service to get from one side to the other. Underground tunnels are still being dug to form a path, but the pace has been very slow.

    Nocturia

Nocturia is the northeasternmost island in the region. Densely forested, not much is known about the island's history. People began settling there because of the abundant trees, but strange things happening in Tempora Forest have pushed them back to Lustria. The dark and looming forest is supposedly home to Shadow Pokémon, normal Pokémon with a dark, smoky aura surrounding them who attack outsiders on sight. Old stories passed down through the generations say that Tempora Forest is home to many great secrets, but nobody is brave enough to step into the trees.
    [a id]climate[/a id]

    Climate

Illumia is a temperate, windy region (which can be good or bad for the Balloon Service). Temperatures range from just below freezing in the winter to 30C in the summers. Nobody ever complains about how hot or cold it is. Most complaints are directed toward the wind.

    Cities & Towns

    A. Verila City
A fishing city riddled with windmills which serve as icons for the city, Verila City is a good city for families. There are many fun places for children to play, and swimming is always a good hobby. In fact, there is a swimming school for children involving various Pokemon. One of the Five Masters, ---, lives in this city.

    B. Everlush Town
A beautiful logging village, Everlush Town is the primary logging center in Illumia. Filled with dozens of different trees, this town's natural beauty makes it a popular tourist spot. Flowers bloom year-round and the winds are nice and gentle here.

    C. Atlyn City
A city dedicated to the sea, fishing, sailing, swimming, diving, and other aquatic activities are extremely common here. A number of deep sea caverns surround the city, many of which have yet to be explored. The city is home to several acclaimed scientists who study ocean life and how Pokemon live in the sea. One of the Five Masters, ---, lives here.

    D. Jupora City
The capital of Illumia and a bustling city full of spirit, Jupora City is home to many important people and places. The Five Masters of Illumia gather here every year in the annual Light Festival, a celebration of people, Pokemon, and hope that attracts people from far away regions. The Illumian Balloon Service, which provides transportation across the entire region, has their headquarters here.

    E. Sacra Elivia
The scientific capital of the region. Home to the largest laboratory and research center in the region (and most likely the world), the majority of residents here are scientists and their families. In the past few years their research has been focused on Shadow Pokémon and the mysteries of the Tempora Forest.

    F. Novalia City
The first city on Nocturia that modern humans settled. A quiet seaside city, most people and Pokémon here stay indoors. Sailing and swimming used to be popular in the past, but recently a series of storms have hit the city, preventing any of that. One of the Five Masters, ---, lives here.

    G. Ferion City
Home to a rather large but now defunct lumber operation, Ferion City is now a large city where people and Pokemon live together in peace. The city is scattered with many temples of unknown origin. One such temple was converted into a museum which contains ancient Illumian artifacts. Scientists from Sacra Elivia often travel here to study the temples and artifacts, hoping to gain more knowledge about the Tempora Forest, ancient Illumia, and Shadow Pokémon. One of the Five Masters, ---, lives here.

    H. Gralius City
Gralius City is home to the largest mining operation in Illumia. Gralius workers have been digging tunnels underneath Mt. Valion for the past few months, but startled Pokémon have been making the digging process slower than it should be.

    I. Seria Village
A nice little town on top of a cliff. A bit dangerous for children since the cliff and strong winds don't mix well. The newest settlement in the region, there is not much history to it, but the future looks bright.

    J. Espirul City
A city known for its psychic trainers and Pokémon. The tall Infinity Tower stands above the rest of the city, housing some of the most extraordinary psychics the world has ever seen. Currently the police are investigating reports of missing Pokémon in this area. One of the Five Masters, ---, lives here.

    The Five Masters

Illumia does not have the standard eight gyms + Pokémon League like other regions. Instead, the region is home to 5 extremely skilled trainers known as the Five Masters. The Five do not hand out badges. They are simply guardians of the region, maintaining the balance and peace of people, Pokemon, and the land. They are not restricted to a single Pokemon type like standard Gym Leaders. Each Master and their Pokémon are free to do anything they wish in Illumia, so long as they remain symbols of strength and peace.

    Master battle system coming soon!

    Joining Illumia

Currently, Illumia is accepting all people who wish to join, whether you wish to participate as a trainer and defeat the Five Masters, or simply live as a fisherman and enjoy the world around you. Your actions are decided by you, and you are free to shape the fate of Illumia as you like.

*You are allowed to join as one of the Five Masters, just please make sure your character is well thought out as you will be important.

Region Events and other relevant information will be posted frequently, so feel free to have your character react accordingly or simply ignore the happenings around you and do as you wish.

Here is a simple sign-up form that I've filled out as an example. You are free to put as much or as little information as you wish when signing up.

    Character Name: Aaron
Role in the region (trainer, fisherman, etc): Scientist
    Pokémon:
    The Illumia Region
    The Illumia Region

Character information: Aaron was born to a respected scientist in Sacra Elivia. Naturally intelligent (but also quite cowardly), Aaron has dedicated his life to revealing the mysterious nature of Shadow Pokémon. A lousy trainer, he fears that he may never be able to gain the same reverence as his father unless he makes a breakthrough discovery. To that end, he is constantly visiting the edge of Tempora Forest in hopes of seeing a Shadow Pokemon to observe.

    Illumia Skype Chat

We do have a Skype group, and although it's extremely small at the moment (since we are a brand new region), it's a good way to keep up to date with current events and to talk to fellow Illumians!

Members are not required to join the Skype group, but are highly recommended to as it will be the quickest way to contact me or other members.

Jasmine was raised in Everlush Town by her mother and father, a botanist and a florist. She is the second-youngest of five sisters and was mainly left to her own devices as a child. Due to that, she is independent, adventurous, and social. She went to boarding school in Jupora after age 12, specialized in atmospheric sciences, and eventually became a balloon pilot for Illumia Transit. Often derided for her choice in Pokémon while at the flight academy, she has had to establish creative methods for piloting. This plus her fearlessness often results in rather unexpected things for people travelling with her.

She likes flying, meteorology, windy weather, chemistry, and art. <3

    Character Name: Vincenzo

    Role in the region: Trainer

    Pokémon: Rhyhorn, Buizel, Pidgeot

Character information: Vincenzo grew up in Verila City as the son of a Fisherman and Florist. Naturally drawn to the Pokemon that his parents used to assist in their jobs, Vincenzo became enamored with Pokemon. After helping his parents for years and traveling around the region, he feels it is time to step out on his own and make a name for himself and do what he loves, working side by side with Pokemon on the battlefield and becoming Master of the Five Masters. (Due to his traveling around,he managed to catch a few Pokemon of his own to start out with) Though on the older end of a trainer just beginning his journey, he looks at himself as a late bloomer and is ready to start the next chapter of his life with his Pokemon best friends.
