  • @Tixen: Sure, I'll put you down for one.

@siiadams: I would like to say that most of the problems that I'm about to mention are minor and that most of the SU is fine, but the spell and history sections need a bit of work. So, let me break it down into individual sections. It may seem like a lot, but it really isn't.

Spells: You have 3 fire spells listed, but you mention Phil being fire and lightning. So, were you planning on adding a lightning spell or were you planning to be mono-fire for now? I'm just wondering, since you can always add lightning later once the character can wield it if you go mono-fire at the start. Also, there are five spell slots, and it's fine to use less, but I just felt like I should bring it to your attention in case you didn't realize. As for the actual spells, there are a couple of problems with your spells, some actual problems and others born from misconception. The pentagrams used in hadoken and inferno blast really don't have a place in Vale (I know that they are supposed to make the spells unique, but they just don't fit in the setting). Fire breath is kinda an implied power for most fire users, as basic fire manipulation is expected for any spell user, and since fire breath doesn't exactly do anything special, it falls under this categorization. Inferno blast has a glaring problem, as it mentions the spell as being slow and unavoidable, which aren't exactly complimentary. Honestly, I think you could be more creative with your spells. As long as they're even remotely feasible, then chances are Birdy and I would be fine with them. Finally, and though this is more of an inquiry than a problem, what do these spells, or any future spells, have to do with Phil (ie: what part of him do they reflect)?

History: I'll start from the beginning on this one. I can understand the abusive father, but that's about it. In a modern setting such as Vale's, it's rather farfetched to believe that not a single teacher over a minimum of seven years ever questioned Phil or contacted child protective services. I'd have an easier time believing that no one would've questioned Phil if he didn't have bruises on his face, but it was clearly mentioned that he indeed have bruises on his face. There are a few things we tend to look for in the history as well, those being location (where they grew up or were living before going to Vale), significant events (such as the child abuse), and why Vale would be interested in them (usually a decent display of magical potential). Unfortunately, only one was adequately fulfilled, while one was entirely omitted. On more of a personal note, we'd rather you focus less on drama as much as substance for a character. With that said, we aren't saying the child abuse thing needs to be removed, but it's not the most preferable topics to focus on in Phil's history.

Asking just to make sure, I take it you can have someone who is exclusively a secondary element mage? So for example, you have someone who is originally a fire mage, but then their magic develops so they are exclusively electric. Does it work like that, or does one retain the original element while still being able to manipulate the secondary one?

  • @Tixen: All advanced element users retain their original element, so lightning mages would still be able to wield fire.

    Jack Marrick
    qsQxiLh.png

    Age: 17

Gender: Sexy hunk of man Male

    Element: Earth > Metal

    Spells:
Flash Armory: Jack creates any of a number of objects almost instantaneously. He can create just about any physical object with this spell, so long as there's a conceivable way to make it out of earthly materials. Otherwise the spell is only limited by his imagination and his energy. Flash Armory can also be used to modify objects into other objects on the fly, including things made from the spell itself.

Artificer's Will: Jack has even more finely-tuned control over his Geokinesis and Ferrokinesis than most mages do over their elements, to the point where he can rip minerals out of the ground or artificial constructs to create things with Flash Armory or enhance things he's already created, and can even manipulate objects not made solely out of earthly materials as long as they have a decent amount of said things in them. If he can concentrate hard enough he can even imbue inanimate objects smaller than a person with his will, although right now he can only do it with one thing at a time. This "posessed" object can act almost autonomously for a period of time such as a sword slashing at someone without Jack directly controlling it.

Sangroforge: Jack can extract iron from his own blood to make metal in excess. It requires an open wound to let the iron escape his body, and either more wounds or a larger wound the more he wants to generate at once, but he can produce it for usage indefinitely... as long as he doesn't pass out from loss of blood first. Thanks to the magical properties of Jack's blood objects created from it are faintly enchanted and are more resistant to magic as well as just plain stronger despite iron being the main mineral in blood. Sangroforge can also be used to infuse blood into an object that already exists to reinforce it with bloodmetal and/or enchant it.

Labyrinthian Onslaught: Probably Jack's most frustrating spell for most opponents. If given enough time to prepare he is able to sew his energy throughout whatever battlefield he is on as long as it's made of earthly elements. Once the metaphorical seeds have been planted manipulation of the ground and its contents becomes exponentially easier and more precise for Jack for the next few minutes. After the spell takes hold Jack begins to use the environment to constantly harass and unbalance his opponents, from shifting the ground under them slightly to raising walls and trapping them in a makeshift maze.

Esper's Sepulcher: Jack's most powerful spell, Esper's Sepulcher combines Flash Armory, Artificer's Will, and sometimes even Labyrinthian Onslaught on a much larger scale than average. He forcibly rips a large amount of metal, minerals, and stones out of his surroundings before using it all to make a large amount of weapons at once. All the weapons made during the spell are scattered about so Jack can pick them up or take control of them at any time, lending a huge amount of versatility and unpredictability to Jack's fighting style.

Appearance: Jack is a handsome individual but he's no Adonis , or jock for that matter. He is tall and wiry with light skin and deep green eyes that are somehow intense and kind at the same time. Jack is a healthy 6'2 despite having an average sized torso thanks to his disproportionately long legs. His hair is bright blond and curly, with bangs that curl down and stop right above his eyebrows. It goes to the bottom of his chin in the back and his side burns end just a few inches higher than the bottom of his ears. With a nose normal enough there's no point describing it, a well-shaped sort of angular face containing a complete lack of blemishes make for a pleasant visage. His arms are a bit more tan and have the only freckles on his body because he prefers to wear short-sleeved shirts even when it's cold. His arms and legs are strong and muscular from working at the smithy, but since he didn't do any real exercises he doesn't have 6 pack abs or anything.

Jack of course has more than one single set of clothes, but all of his pants are fairly plain blue jeans and he has a shirt he wears as often as possible to the point of practically being his trademark apparel. This shirt is covered in white blue and green (with more green than the other two) lines and squares forming a pattern known as "Plaid". Jack's plaid shirt is short sleeved with buttons that he usually leaves undone, as he almost always wears either a light blue or white T-shirt underneath it. His shoes are some sporty design of skater shoes incorporating mostly black and white, with little bits of red or goldish yellow trim here and there.

Personality: Jack can be described by many words, some of which conflict with each other yet somehow still fit. He is: kind, sarcastic, snarky, intelligent, lazy, clever, charismatic, and creative, but still prone to moments of extreme selfishness, absent-mindedness, and not being able to think of what to say or do. Jack's sense of humor is filled with a lot of sarcasm, but always has a playful tone to it, more friendly teasing than insults unless he has a damn good reason not to like someone. Sometimes he blurts out his thoughts before he realizes his words may be too accurate or rude and cuts right to someone's insecurities, but when he says something like that he always feels bad, he doesn't like to hurt people's feelings. However, he is likely to point out any mistakes he sees because he believes not telling someone they've screwed up leaves them more likely to do it again, and you don't have to be a jerk to inform someone of their failings.

He's very smart, often piecing things together in ways people wouldn't notice by looking right at them or thinking normally, but also has a great capacity for logic. Even with his intelligence though sometimes things go right over his head until they're spelled out for him, or he can't think of anything to say, and there seems to be no explanation for these lapses in thought processes. The most notable part of Jack's personality is his charisma, he's very good at talking whether it's for the sake of persuasion or simply conversation and often fits his twists of logic into his speech to be even more convincing. Anyone who knows him well is disappointed in how clueless he is about women being interested in him. Despite his decent looks and usual charm he's managed to stay single his whole life thanks to the sudden uncharacteristic obliviousness mentioned earlier. Jack would never know if anyone was romantically interested in him unless they made it as obvious as possible or clearly told him in no uncertain terms that they were.

He always tries to consider other people's feelings in any event but he doesn't care what somebody thinks of him unless they are someone important to him or they actually do a good job of pointing out one of his own character flaws he wasn't aware of before, in which place he's glad for the opportunity to work on it.

He is often reluctant to start on anything that could be called hard work unless he has a good reason to be excited about it, but once he starts something, whether or not he wanted to in the first place he becomes determined to see it through. He also isn't one to watch anybody suffer in front of him and do nothing, even if it's none of his business or they outright tell him to stay out of it.

History: The Marrick family is strangely enough one with little prior history of having mages, or really any involvement with magic at all. Daniel Marrick was very interested in traditional weapons growing up, loving stories of knights and adventurers but never paying too much attention to firearms. This interest never waned like so many childhood fancies do and led Daniel to read as many books on warriors and metallurgy as he could get a hold of, and once he felt knowledgeable he even got some basic metalworking tools. Perseverance payed off as it always does to anyone with a modicum of intelligence and after a couple years of pounding cheap iron into pleasing shapes and fixing nails and such for people in his basement for cheap Daniel was able to stop working boring regular jobs and get an apprenticeship under a professional blacksmith. Even though Blacksmiths nowadays usually just make simple metal tools and fixtures or at best knives for people thanks to more traditional weapons not being viable for every-day use Daniel's love of weapons that were aesthetically pleasing AND functional wouldn't allow him to stop thinking of them.

Daniel started to make his own custom knives and sell them on the side at some unknown point, both for extra pocket change and just to see if he could do it. At first his knives were functional, but nothing too pretty, not good for anything more than basic utility really but useful at least. Once he started to make a name and some money he could afford better materials and find better contacts to acquire such materials, and so as the quality of his knives grew so did his small amount of fame and his profit. After he became confident he could actually make a living as a Blacksmith Daniel thanked his teacher for all the help, resigned as his apprentice and offered to rent some of his tools and work stations every once in a while. He really enjoyed being around a good friend and already had a way to make tools and weapons for people, but his first and foremost goal was to get to a point where he could strike out on his own so he saved up to buy the exact tools and implements his teacher had piece by piece until he could furnish his own smithy.

Finally feeling he had the very minimum of what he needed to really be a blacksmith Daniel cleared out the first floor of the basement in the small house he'd inherited from his grandparents and set up his small smithy inside of it. Years went by and word spread that there was a blacksmith in a small town in Northern California who was not only talented but truly seemed passionate about his work, and even offered to make custom-ordered weapons for people who could afford it. It was slow going at first, and with most people who needed knives in his town already having come to him before Daniel still had to make his living off of common things like nails and regular tools, but every person that did order a weapon fed both his wallet and his skill.

Even later after Daniel had managed to get a hold of his own building so he could finally feel like his smithy was a real business someone quite important made their way to him. There was a man from England, sir Reginald Collifer was from a well known family and was a self-made business man, he never even accepted his inheritance until after his own company proved successful. He'd brought his daughter Carol who was the fencing champion at her school and was thinking of competing on higher levels, she wanted her own special foil and she had apparently asked to be taken to him. Marrick couldn't comprehend why on earth she'd chosen him, or how they had even heard of him. What better place to find someone to make a rapier or a foil than England, and especially why some only recently popular blacksmith in America?

The flustered young man certainly wasn't complaining though, besides the fact that he could expect good payment for such an endeavor Carol was the most beautiful women he'd ever seen, with an angelic face, full lips and perfect long legs that made her taller than he was at 6 feet. Daniel had an interesting idea, he of course not only made weapons but practiced with some of his own, he challenged her to a fencing match to get a feel for her movements so he could make a more fitting tool of victory for her. She agreed but despite his love of weapons he was a prodigy at making them, not using them, unlike Carol. In what seemed like an instant upon starting the match she had the end of her foil on the padding right in front of Daniel's heart, the second round was no different and just for good measure she swept his feet after the third and giggled at his failure. The moment the beautiful woman knocked him on his ass he knew she was "the one"

Courting is a long and difficult to describe process, so let's skip to the magic shall we? As you may have guessed by now Daniel and Carol ended up falling in love, and there's certainly a reason Daniel has the same last name as Jack does up there at the top. At some point Daniel discovered there was a reason everything he made, every piece of metal he shaped came out so perfect, so...exactly how he felt it should. One day when Daniel was making the guard on a particularly ornate and complicated cutlass somebody wanted for a pirate movie (why they wanted a real sword for a prop was beyond him, maybe for an extremely well-detailed model for a digitally added sword) He was scratching his beard (because as we all know all blacksmiths have awesome beards) and wondering how he was going to finish it. How could they ask for something so complex and expect him to finish it in only a few days? Obviously they didn't want it to be so authentic it could really kill people in a swashbuckling adventure but that just wasn't good enough for him, anything made by him absolutely had to be functional.

He was racking his mind trying to think how he would make such flowing and intricate bands of metal without them being as delicate as hot gold, he slammed his fist on the table next to the anvil and rubbed his temple. When he stopped gritting his teeth and opened his eyes he was astonished to see the guard shape itself exactly the way he thought it should be, all he had left to do was attach it to the hilt properly refine the whole sword in minute details. Daniel learned what he could about magic and found out that there were in fact people known to have magic abilities pertaining to minerals. He never really tried to learn any spells though, just went on as he always did, happy with the knowledge that some force was passively helping him put his heart and soul into his creations better than most craftsman could ever dream. At least the way he'd always seemed to feel what materials were right for specific things his whole life had a more concrete explanation now.

Now on to Jack, the star of this sign-up sheet but ironically, not really of his own history section. This has gone long enough without him after all. In time Carol became pregnant with and gave birth to a baby Jack, Daniel noticed right away that the baby had his mother's beautiful eyes. Of course when Jack grew older and started to really come into his own body Carol was quick to point out he had his father's masculine jaw and shoulders, to which Daniel countered he had Carol's beautiful golden locks and grace. Whether it was because of a natural affinity for it or because he revered his father so greatly Jack was always watching him and glad for every opportunity to learn everything about smithing he could. Jack proved to have his father's talent for crafting metal tools, but even better it became clear before he was more than 8 years old that far surpassed his father in magical prowess. He could feel all the minerals and metals around him, and manipulate the ground, and even metals after enough practice. In time, Jack didn't simply make especially high quality weapons, he could make them purely by imagining how they should be and concentrating intensely in the presence of the proper materials. He could even make the metals and minerals more dense, stronger and more flexible than any normal person ever could even with good materials and a lot of folding.

Jack's father tried to keep him making weapons the traditional way, good old fashioned hard work with one's own hands was the best way to make anything, and to really put one's own heart into it. But Jack no longer had any intention of simply hand-crafting weapons, he was obsessed with mastering his own craft, and his mother saw the rift it opened between them. The two needed space from each other before their kinship grew too strained. Fortuitously, a few weeks later Carol brought Jack a rather fancy looking letter and told him to open it himself, it was none other than a letter of invitation from the Vale Institute of Magic. Jack had no idea how they heard about him but he was ecstatic, finally a chance to refine his own special talent! He wasted no time in packing up and Daniel reluctantly brought him to the Institute, he was sad to see his son go and that he couldn't continue teaching him, but he wanted his only son to be happy more than anything else.

Other: You could say Jack has a little bonus talent you might call a "Smith's Eye" Thanks to the way he grew up he has a near encyclopedic knowledge of melee weaponry, and when he makes weapons with Flash Armory they are almost perfect representations of the weapons instead of crude but functional imitations or unique but strange designs one might expect from magically created weapons. They even seem to gain their proper colors, mimicking any paint they might have or the appearance of where a non-metal material would usually be.

Hello there. Reserve a spot for me and I'll get my post up in 36 hours. And I have two questions:

    1. Yes. Please don't. We're not stopping you, but please don't. At least not more than once. Please.

    2. If the parents are aware that their child has magical abilities, they'll be made aware that Vale is a magic-oriented school, and they have to keep this ish secret or else they will no longer have a mouth with which to spill the beans. >:3

Some parents will have knowledge of Vale even before the lead character of your sheet received an invitation letter. This could be through siblings, or parents having connections. Stuff like that.

Otherwise, they won't know jack. It'll just be a prestigious school where their child was given a full ride and basically a guaranteed future. Same goes for friends. If they don't know anything (which they generally shouldn't, because, y'know, gubbermint and shtuff.), but they guess a little (such as in the way the Vale student used magic in their daily life, like for jumping a little higher or pulling off cool magic tricks, or just getting the upper hand in a fight) they can make up their own conspiracies.

  • Name: Michael Graves

    Age: 17

    Gender: Male

    Element: Fire/Lightning

    Spells:

    Compact Stream
: Michael snaps his fingers once and creates a miniature spark by manipulating the friction that comes from snapping his fingers. Then by manipulating this spark he creates a small focused stream of fire that is shot forth towards the target. The fire has a focused area of effect and can be dodged by getting out of said area but it is fired quite fast making it somewhat hard to do so; the flames can still burn him if they were to touch which usually causes some light burns across his fingers. To prevent this he wears small metal clips that contain flint and steel so when he snaps he uses the spark to fuel the technique.

Burning Embers: Michael forms a small spike of fire in the palm of his hand and then points it towards the target. It is then launched after however long he wishes to charge it towards the target, the flame starts of small and slow but rapidly gains speed and grows bigger as it goes through the air eventually forming into a large spear. Depending on if he charges it or doesn't the flame can be launched at a bigger state and have a longer range. Without any charge it can only go about 8 feet forward but with a charge its distance is quite far. However the longer he charges it the more likely he is to get burns on his palms. A variation of this move is to form multiple spikes and then launch them towards the target however it takes a larger time to charge up for this variation taking anywhere from several seconds to nearly a minute depending on how many he makes.

Electromagnetic Blade: Rubbing his hands together Michael manipulates the friction created from the act to form an electrical spark from there and then form a blade of pure electricity. From there he can then use it as a normal blade, extend it, retract it, or even send a bolt of lightning forward away from the blade. The blade itself is around the same length as a claymore and can extend several feet forward as long as Michael possesses an electrical charge at the time. The weapon takes quite a bit of concentration to create and maintain its form after being created and when a lightning bolt is released from the blade it decreases in size an intensity. It can easily be recharged but this can make Michael sluggish as he is refueling it with his own energy. It causes minor damage to him after some time in the form of numbness and/or a minor burn.

Magnetize: By using this ability Michael is able to effectively edit the charge of an item or give it an electric charge if it does not possess one or possesses one that can change. He must touch the target for him to implant a charge on said target making the ability somewhat hard to use on faster moving targets. However once he has set a charge it lasts a very long time and will attract things of an opposite charge. To remove the magnetic charge he simply drains the electric charge out of the target or simply changes it to neutral. This move can only be activated by touch but has a pretty limitless use. A secondary usage of this is to fuel himself with electricity for his most powerful technique.

Infinity: Michael's most powerful technique and most risky would be the move he calls Infinity and what it does is emit an internal electrical field which overcharges his nervous system allowing him to do feats beyond normal human limitations such as read movements from the target and react to them automatically allowing him to flawlessly dodge and even counter attacks which is beyond most mages limits. Besides this the overcharge heightens his senses to near superhuman levels leaving the move as a double-edged sword, his sense of pain is much higher making a normally non threatening cut feel much worse than. The longer this move is in use there is a chance that he could suffer from temporary paralysis due to the damage the move can cause to his nervous system. This move can only be used for a few minutes at max as it requires a high electrical charge in his body as a need.

Appearance: Michael is roguishly good looking, at least in his own opinion, but females don't seem to think so which is probably due to his personality. He is a tall and rather well-built individual and has dark blue eyes that give off an aura of utter confidence and belief in himself. He stands at around 6'2" and weighs just around 190lbs which is somewhat odd seeing as a majority of his family is rather short but it doesn't bother him much. He has messy long black hair that is usually tied into a ponytail, at one point it was short but he finds it annoying to have to cut it, so he just lets it grow. He has a very sharp face with not too much baby fat left on it which gives him a mature-look even though he is rather young.

While well built he is not by any means jacked to the point of having muscles on his muscles, he is very solid however and this can be seen as he is extremely fit to the point where his muscles are quite noticeable. This is one thing he does not boast about though as he worked hard to get his body to that state. Clothing wise he where's whatever he feels like wearing unless specifically needing to wear something but his usual clothing mainly consists of some dark blue jeans and he mainly wear short sleeve shirts and a light jacket. He sticks to brighter colors such as red, yellow, or even orange and they are of course his favorite colors.

One thing that almost never changes on him is his running sneakers which are at all times kept in excellent condition. They have a custom design on them that he made himself and features different anime and things on the side of his shoes. He is almost never seen not wearing these sneakers and most wonder how he keeps them in such good condition. Around his neck is a simple pendant with a green gemstone.

Personality: Michael could be described in a multitude of words but mainly one comes up that describes him to a tee is cocky. He is extremely cocky and has an absolute amount of confidence in his ability and not having any doubts about himself. This cockiness can sometimes make him downright arrogant to the point where even others may dislike him intensely. He can be quite quick to anger sometimes and tries really hard to control his anger but there are just certain things that set him off, mainly someone questioning any of his abilities. He is surprisingly humble at the same time and will not boast randomly about how amazing he is or anything but he will always be confident in whatever he does, even if it's a menial task he'll still try his hardest. However he does believe his abilities are far beyond others and will be little others if he finds them lacking but also offer praise and acceptance and sometimes even encourage others. He's kind of weird in that perspective.

Michael is very smart for someone so cocky and arrogant at times and is able to calmly assess a situation as long as he is in the right state of mind. Surprisingly he is willing to put his friends, or any friends he may have, above his own needs as he cherishes friends as one cherishes their own life. This could be due to the fact he was a very lonely child and held barely any companionship with kids his age and barely held anyone he saw as an equal. Michael has tried to tone down his cockiness slightly which makes him less prone to making comments that may seem arrogant.

Sometimes his thoughts can just slip out leaving others rather annoyed or even downright angry.
He does not know how to handle people he considers friends too well so he can be a bit awkward around people who he considers friends but he is willing to get to know others. Despite his comments about others he generally wants to see others succeed and is willing to help them achieve their dreams, even if he is a bit of jerk in how he does so. Due to certain events underneath all this is a bit of apathy and melancholy but he continues as confident as ever.

History: The Graves family was one who had very little connection to magic besides the minor exception of Michael's Uncle Dan who was a novice at magic and hadn't really done anything with the ability even though he had wanted to go to that school for magic when he was younger that the family had talked about, and his Father but he didn't know about him at the time. Dan was a water mage and had no real talent at it and worked extremely hard to even get to the point where he was able to use it to heal, with this he opened up a small clinic in San Diego near where they lived. The Graves family was decidedly normal and lived in a nice house near the beach in California, it was a good life. Things changed however when near the age of 11 Michael discovered the wonders of magic, and the other side of his family was revealed. It was an event that led to him being introduced someone whom he came to cherish as a friend.

It was a simple rainy day and he was walking around with his rain gear on splashing around in the puddles as he liked to do even if it was a bit childish. A loud barking broke him from his play though as noticed a large dog about to attack some kittens. He couldn't leave the kittens to fend for themselves in good conscious so he made his decision. Michael doesn't know what happened next as he ran over but he does remember standing over an extremely burnt dog and that he had some bite marks on his arm. Next thing he knew he was unconscious but it felt like something had caught him. Waking up in some sort of room he saw his Uncle standing over him and what he was told next was very interesting. He was told of the magical world in more detail and about the different things he should know but the most important was to not tell anyone of the information he now knew, at least that was what he had taken away from it.

His Uncle also revealed something that he had suspected for quite some time, his Father was apart of the magic world somewhat and had been somewhat important at a time but had cut his ties as best as he could so he could live a peaceful life away from all the magic. His Uncle told him how his Dad and him had been accepted to some prestigious school and his Dad was some sort of prodigy while he was considered a sort of failure which had inspired him to train even harder which allowed him to accomplish the healing skills he had now. From the bit that he was told so far he was hooked and wanted to learn more about the magical side of the world which prompted his Uncle, through continuous nagging on Michael's part, to get the necessary things needed for him to go off and train for two years with his personal teacher who lived in Ireland.

Arriving in Ireland after an uneventful flight he and his Uncle quickly headed to where his instructor was supposed to live and he was quite surprised to see that she lived in some huge estate. However he was much more surprised by the fact that it was a rather young looking woman who owned the entire place, she wasn't anything like how his Uncle had described her she even seemed a bit ditzy and he had learned her name the day his training began. It was Claire Connolly and he soon found out that the young woman with black hair and an aura of ditziness around her was a brutal taskmaster who seemed incredibly random at times. The one time he had pranked her and had taken her always constant glasses that she wore while she trained him in magic theory she had decided to begin doing things that would make his life harder. She had even thrown a bucket of water on him while he was asleep and then justified it by saying that he looked a little hot. Even with all of her eccentricities she was good at what she did and he grew quite close to her and took to her lessons like a moth to a flame.

As the two years passed by quickly he was now 13 years old with his magical studies dealt with by his teacher Claire and his non magical studies taught by his Uncle Dan, whom he had found out was quite the scholar apparently, his learning curve was rather incredible. In his magical studies the few friends of Claire who were invested in the magical world summed up his progress as quite remarkable for his age and that he could be considered a genius in his own right and while he was happy about this one does tend to get quite lonely with no friends. As a majority of his time was spent on either training or studying he didn't have much time to make any friends and so his connection to his teacher was one he cherished quite so. However it was not meant to last as during the last month of his training he found out something very serious about his teacher, she was dying. No one told him from what but it was some sort of disease that had no cure and had been caught too late to do anything about it so she had resigned herself to living out her days peacefully until she inevitably died.

From the information he heard she didn't have much more than 3 or 4 months to live at for a short time he despaired, but it was quickly knocked out of him by his still somewhat able teacher and his Uncle. She had already accepted her fate but in his heart he knew that he didn't want her to die, she was his friend and mentor he didn't want to accept this. However he knew there wasn't anything he could really do he was only a child, an admittedly very talented one in magical standards, but he was still only a child. Time passed by uneventfully until the day his teacher was meant to pass on and he would like to say he didn't cry but he did. It was a sad day for him but he pushed through it his teacher wouldn't want him moping for something like this and so days continued as they had before but seemed to miss a little something.

With no real instructor to teach him more about magic besides the notes his teacher left for future ideas he decided to continue school in Ireland while sharpening the current skills he had. His Teacher had suspiciously left her estate to him and his Uncle and the money she had left as if she had foreseen what was going to happen so they deigned to live there while they stayed. It had been revealed to him that she had no real family that she was connected with, her non-magical brother had died in some car accident only last year and her sister was off the grid at the moment. From what he saw of the people who interacted with her on the Magic side a majority of them were just acquaintances accept a small select few but even they did not interact often. His Uncle and him were currently the people closest to her and with this info she had decided the money she had would go to better use on them than wasting away or something not within her consent or at least that was what his Uncle had said.

Attending a primarily English speaking school in Ireland he blazed through it without too much effort put in as he already was taught a majority of the material and soon he became bored and slightly arrogant towards others in the respect of that he was head and shoulders above them. In sports he dominated due to the ridiculous exercises he was put through and still kept up with which made many other athletes make him their rivals. He didn't really care though there wasn't much chance they would get to his level but it was nice to see them try, it made him believe that one day they actually would match him or maybe even surpass him. Even if it was very far off into the future it would be amazing so he waited for such a glorious moment in which he could have someone who was his match.

Approximately 4 years passed and he was finally 17 with his birthday happening just as the school year ended and he was quite bored, he had made a few friends here and there because they were interesting and could actually keep up with him somewhat, at least in intelligence. Nothing truly eventful happened besides an unexpected visit by his Father during his 15th birthday on July 5th whom he hadn't seen for quite some time, and only contacted him the through phone from time to time. During the time he was there his Dad revealed what his connection to the Magic side was, he had been working with the government for some years in one of its magical divisions. When asked further information his Dad told him that it wasn't information he was privy to as of now but that maybe one day he would. He had also gave him a few ideas on what he could do with his magic, what he could do with fire in particular seeing as it was his Father's specialty. He stayed for a brief time of about 1 week and flew back to the States leaving Michael with the parting message that something interesting was going to happen soon.

Coming home to the estate one day he found a peculiar piece of mail that had been addressed to him and opening it up he was somewhat surprised to see an invitation to a school, Vale Institute of Higher Learning or something like that and it was back in America. Talking to his Uncle about it he was told that he should most definitely go as this was a once in a life time chance. Well if his Uncle was excited about it, and his Uncle nowadays only got excited to help people or when he saw an attractive female so that's saying something, it most definitely peaked his interest. He told his Uncle that he might as well go, it was going to be quite an interesting ride if the vibe he was getting right.

Other: Michael seemingly likes all things anime related, if he had to guess he got the obsession from his teacher, and sometimes will even mimic characters for different purposes. Michael took up the hobby of origami after watching a certain anime and holds onto the belief that if you fold one thousand origami cranes you can get a wish.

  • I was wondering if I could keep my reservation for another 24 hours. I'm very busy so I won't be able to submit my SU today. Also, I was wondering if I could keep crappy names for spells and change them later since I'm terrible at coming up with names.

There isn't exactly a time limit on reservations here. Instead, we gauge your progress based on how many times you've had to change your sheet. (In a previous RP, someone had remade their sheet seven times to get accepted. It was hilarious and admirable.) If we think you've made too little progress over time, we remove the reservation and make the slot a free-for-all.

  • @Everyone: Come on everybody! A couple more completed SUs and then we will be able to roll for the first event and be able to post the IC.

@Chuckles: Sorry about the computer issues. Hope you get everything back up and running as soon as possible.

@DreamOrDestruction: Your SU is quite close to acceptance. Only a couple of minute things need to be addressed. As a tiny note, I see what you did there with the appearance. ;)

Ignition Drive: There's a fundamental problem with this spell's design. Unlike tempering steel, heating up elements, or exciting atoms to be more specific, would cause a phase change into a gaseous state instead of hardening a substance. Vale may be a magical world, but it still follows real world mechanics, such as chemistry. It's a shame, too, since the spell is balanced rather well. That being said, I may be suffering from a misconception due to certain wording in the spell. If so, then I would advise you to alter the wording to be more appropriate to the spell.

Infinity: This spell has quite a bit of potential and is very promising, but in its current state, it's underutilized. The mechanics of the spell need to be reworked. Otherwise it has a very deadly possibility, which could be prevented. If you'd like, we would be more than happy to help draw out the potential in this spell.

History: There's nothing particularly problematic here concept wise, but there is a more generalized complication. You go to great lengths to make Michael's life very eventful, which is quite promising, but most of these events aren't even bare descriptions, especially those involving Chi. Her inclusion appears to be quite important, but there's absolutely no good reason explained for her to be with Michael and his uncle. A little bit more elaboration would go a long way in clarifying the history, and Michael in the process.

"Would it really be so bad to be lost in temptation~?"
    ✘

    Name
    Violett Fuerst-Shaw
    Age
    Seventeen years old.
    Gender
    Female

    Element
    Fire
    Spells
Burn for Me: By making physical contact with an object, Violett is capable of engulfing it in flames. This object and the air surrounding it will then burn, breaking down and melting it. In the case of liquids they will boil, reduced to vapour which can be used to produce a thick smokescreen.

Love is Blind: Air carries heat and energy just as well as solid objects and through her fire magic Violett can create a thick barrier of haze between her and her opponent. This can take many forms although this is usually a flat wall or circle around herself or her target. This barrier is incredibly hot and painful to touch, and flammable objects will likely catch fire when in contact with it. Furthermore, light is distorted through the heated air and it becomes very difficult to distinguish what is on the other side for anyone without the proper means to do so.

Light my Fire: By burning and breaking down the glycogen and lactic acid stored in her body with carefully applied fire magic, Violett can revitalise herself for a short period of time. This does not heal wounds or lessen pain but can give her the energy to ignore these things for a short while and power through exhaustion. This is followed by an inevitable crash as her body tries to cope with the lack of energy.

The Heart's Desire: Heat exhaustion and heat stroke often lead to dizziness, nausea, dehydration, and hallucinations. By heating the air surrounding a person, Violett can quickly simulate the effects of heat stroke on that individual, disorienting them and rendering them harmless.

Love Hurts: Focusing flames into a single, long fibre about the width of a finger, Violett can easily produce a whip-like weapon to defend herself. With all the ferocity of the flames she commands and unpredictability of a regular whip, it is a difficult weapon to master but a lethal one in the right hands. In other cases, Violett is simply able to produce thin, rope-like constructs from fire with limited physical consistency which have a multitude of uses.

    Personality

Above all else, Violett desires one thing; to have the world wrapped around her finger. It is a goal that, to her, she has already set into motion, and every action she takes is dedicated to this.

Violett is a woman perfectly aware of her proficiencies, able to use them to her advantage at a moment's notice. She knows that many find her attractive; her curvaceous figure, remarkably pretty facial features, and soft accent that dances across every word that passes her lips all add an intriguing flare to the way she walks, speaks, and acts, and has never shied away from using these qualities to get whatever she might desire. Through Violett's teenage years she learned to hone her charm and charisma into a knife edge, a lethal weapon of persuasion that rarely fails her. Together, these qualities prove to be just enough to satisfy Violett's craving for attention. If Violett is not surrounded by jealous girls and star-struck boys to shower her in affection then she will seek to make it so, spending every moment plotting to steal the limelight and take her rightful place as the most beautiful and enthralling individual around by any means necessary.

Other than the attention of her peers, Violett feels an equal yearning for amusement. While many things can satisfy this urge she clearly despises normality and, in the event of tediousness, will seek to replace it with energy and excitement. While this may usually be harmless, usually the simple pleasures of a thrilling conversation with one she finds interesting, Violett has been known to cause mischief and chaos where there once was none, all in the sake of her own entertainment. While usually able to deny accountability through a smooth blend of clever wording and unsubtle flirting, those who see through her bluff often spy a jealous woman, driven by a selfish lust and little else. It is true that Violett can be utterly despicable at times, often for no reason other than to satisfy these cravings, but she does not directly seek the harm of other. She only seeks to entertain herself.

    History

Born in Dortmund, located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany, Violett was raised by two business-savvy entrepreneurs with just a little bit more money than sense. Her father was a German man, nearly seven feet tall and composed almost entirely of muscle, and her mother was a far more delicate French woman of whom Violett is the spitting image of, both of whom were well known for their eccentric demeanour, vibrant personalities, and bizarre sense of charm that set them apart from their neighbours. They served as Violett's inspiration and encouragement from the moment she was born, perfect role models for the young girl as she grew up. In her opinion they were, and still are, the two greatest people that she knows.

Violett only remembers glimpses of her earlier years in Germany though. With her mother's family settled in Alsace-Lorraine, specifically Strasbourg, it was not uncommon to make regular trips over the border between France and Germany to meet with relatives. As Violett's grandmother on her mother's side grew ill, spurred on by the various issues that come with old age, these meetings became more and more frequent in an attempt to reconnect the family in what time they had left. These trips were long and difficult though, especially with a small child, but as the health of Violett's grandmother continued to deteriorate it was decided that it would be best to spend as much time with her as possible. The Fuerst-Shaw family planned to move, abandoning its roots in Germany to move to Strasbourg and hopefully find a pleasant little home to settle down in. They did in fact move with Violett only five years old at the time, finding a small house for near the centre of the city and moving in the month after they bought it. Violett was raised in Strasbourg for almost her entire life.

Despite an upbringing in France, Violett still considered herself to be more German than French, partly due to the prominence of the German culture and language in Strasbourg but also because she realised it set her apart from those of her age in the city, carrying a slightly different accent and different mannerisms than they did. It was from a young age she realised that she carried a craving for uniqueness and attention, using the intrigue to become a flourishing socialite through her school years despite her flaws.

The first experience the young girl had of magic, a universal force that can grant human beings amazing abilities, was when she was seven years old. Her father, unbeknownst to her, had been one of the few that carried down a genetic disposition towards a specific element, in this case fire. She had been passed on this gene, taking on the proficiency with fire magic that he displayed. Violett was intrigued, an avid fan of all things mystical and mysterious, and through her father's tutelage she began to develop these magical abilities. Her mother had little part in this with no magical knowledge herself, but offered support and encouragement throughout Violett's training. To Violett, the most prominent, dazzling and spectacular of all was fire. It was searing, raw energy in comprehendible form. It enthralled her almost instantly, captivated by the sheer power that it possessed, and she quickly learned to use these powers not only to twist fire to her command but also to enhance her own physical abilities.

Her father saw promise in her abilities, far more than anyone saw in him as a child, and sought out a professional tutor in magic for his daughter. As it happened, Violett's father was not the only one who had seen potential in the young girl's abilities, as she was already on the list of candidates for new students at Vale. She received a letter to join one week afterwards, an opportunity she quickly jumped upon.

  • I did some edits and expansion to the history and the spell Infinity, with Ignition Drive I'm kind of stumped on what I could do to fix it to meet the standards so yeah I'm still in the process of trying to fix it. Hopefully the history explains a bit more about Chi and why Michael is close to her among other things.

    @Grif: Violett is accepted.

@DoD: Colony didn't properly outline what, exactly, was wrong with your Infinity spell—that is, his issue was worded to be superficial instead of technical—so I'll try shedding some light on it.

While you get the idea across that it maximizes his reflexive capability beyond human standards, you over-explained it to the point that said explanation isn't rational, and that hurt its execution.

For one, you kind of need your nervous system; you can't just ignore it. The way you currently have it worded makes me think of a floating brain, controlling its body with strings like a marionette.

The "second part" part means absolutely nothing to me.

the technique allows him to move his body according to his own will

Do people not have conscious control over their body in the first place? Sure, if he had Tourette's, he could probably negate it like that, but is that useful in any context, Tourette's or not? Not really.

The limitation for such a powerful ability isn't really that "equal" either. Obviously it would need a very short time limit before problems arise from running an ungodly level of electricity through your body, but mages are much more resilient and have better recoveries than their muggle counterparts, so a short period of disorientation and sluggishness is basically nothing when you're Daredevil.

If you'd like a suggestion, simply changing the ability to overcharge his nervous system instead of trying to "bypass" it would not only make it work in a logical sense (making it so he can see things as if they were in slow motion and react to them with increased speed and dexterity), but add multiple possibilities for proper limitations directly related to the nervous system, such as heightened senses (including pain) and temporary paralysis for extended overcharge. In this way, he'd also have to be a lot more careful about using it, especially as a "last ditch" kind of thing where he's already weakened, and I cannot stress enough how weird (and probably stupid) anything that can be described as "last ditch effort" looks in practice.

    Also, I noticed he's a Super Saiyan.

    And this:

Jack is a handsome individual but he's no Adonis , or jock for that matter.

Michael is roguishly good looking, at least in his own opinion, but isn't some perfect supermodel or Adonis in looks which he admits.

On Burning Cross, why not make it a hand, instead of a cross? Crosses are generic. Call it Pimp Slap of the Holy Flame or something; right now it's just a boring religious reference. You don't have to actually make a Pimp Slap of the Holy Flame. It's just so generic, and I have no idea why when you tried so hard to make the history exciting and full of twists and turns (which Colony will be touching on below).

Colony's Thingy for Michael's History Revisions, a Birdy production directed by Colony

The writing overall is just... everywhere. You're jumping back and forth between Michael, Dan and Chi that it loses any of its emotion and impact. It's telling us that you're trying too hard to be dramatic and suspenseful, but you're achieving neither. The way you typed it also makes it feel rushed; we don't want to sound like teachers by pointing out your grammar, but a Chrome or Firefox extension like After the Deadline would go a long way to making your writing much easier to read.

It seems difficult to believe that Michael and Dan would be able to track the kidnappers so easily, especially by following hairs and broken twigs. There's just no real support to believe such a thing. Which brings me to another thing.

The more and more I see your usage of these magical cults, it furthers my disapproval of the history. Even though magic pervades society, it is by far the best kept secret in the world. The concept that these cults would exist would require a ton of prerequisites, such as knowing about magic, being crazy, not having magic, knowing people with magic to sacrifice, and knowing people with similar views, knowledge and degrees of religiously-driven insanity. The idea that Chi would pique the interest of such a group is not even remotely realistic given that she's foreign to the entirety of Asia (going off the information you've provided).

Besides, that is far from what I even meant in the first place about making Chi relevant, since she still has no significance; she's just a pointless MacGuffin. I specifically meant giving her substance as a character and for her to have a valid reason for her to tag along and be in Michael's history at all, not drama for the sake of drama. Why are we supposed to even try to care about her, or Michael, for that matter? Because right now, we don't. We presently want nothing to do with finding out about their future developments. I'm sorry if this comes off mean, but I want to be crystal clear in my explanation.

Birdy: Why's her alias Chi? You could just use an actual name and she would instantly be more relatable, even if it's by a miniscule amount. Better yet, don't use an alias at all. It dehumanizes her, and makes me care less.

  • MAGE APPLICATION

"The hell did you wake me for? Shoo little fly."
    Name: Marcello Crest
    Nickname: Dark Prince
    Age: 15
    Gender: M

    Element: Light
    Spells:
Shining Pods | Marcello summons three orange-sized orbs above himself that are capable of shooting beams of light towards his opponents. These orbs can fire all three shots in one second. They impact with enough force to shatter rock and bruise muscle. The only clue given to its activation is the one by one appearance of the orbs around him.

Crest Persona: Domination | His ace spell. Marcello creates a avatar like being out of a combination of focused light and a force of will. The manifestation of a Crest Persona is shaped by a person's strongest traits and visions of power. In this case, Marcello's appears to be a light-gold, see through demon with an intimidating appearance and menacing plated-skin. In its right hand is a long double edged sword that mimics the actions of a shapeless blade in Marcello's right hand. Hints for its activation includes refracting shifts in the air and the change of Marcello's golden eyes. It floats behind him as legless entity, reaching up to 9 feet tall and appearing humanoid. If used longer than 15 minutes Marcello's body threatens him with aching pain in his muscles, followed by intense cramps, and eventually ruptures that shatters his concentration and paralyzes him with pain. It is unusable without the sun or exceptionally strong moonlight.

Imperial Garnish Dragons | Marcello creates three dragons out of light, each the size of an extended bus in both width and length, and sends them rushing towards his opponents. They travel at 10 meter per second and upon impact creates a force comparable to a small explosion. It deals damage to the skin like that prolong exposure to an extremely sunny day. He doesn't use this spell due to the intense recovery time that follows. He is usually incapable of moving afterwards.

Greater Force | Bending the light around him and molding it using force of will, he creates several small shields around himself in the shape of hexagons. It uses little magic and is capable of deflecting small spells and holding physical forces back.

Shimmering Revolt | A spell that acts as a absolute defense against a fatal move. His body, for a fragment in time, changes its anatomy to the particles that make-up light and makes him invulnerable to damage. While it is useful, it has a terrible cost for staying between planes for too long. Anymore than 10 seconds will warrant his body being drained of natural elements that helps it operate. This usually leads to one of his internal organs failing or his heart weakening to the point that it can no longer pump blood. Causing for immediate medical attention

Appearance: Pale skin lays on his almond shaped face while deep blue eyes burrow into people with a kingly unkindness. Normally his glare is cold and detached, almost aggressively so, but their is a nobility to his features that persuades most women to simply ignore it. His thin eyebrows lay above permanently narrow eye-lids and below a long mess of cerulean dyed-hair. His nose is near perfect and his face is free of any pesky facial hair. This lack of hair would normally give off a boyish expression but due to his innate aggressiveness, he looks mature for his age.

Marcello's body is shaped by his Asian heritage the most. It is slim but fit, leaving him with an athletic body that doesn't appear so beneath his choice of clothing. His body lacks any scars due to his prestigious upbringing, needing him to be inhumanly clean and presentable to the public. He walks with a snobby but very real ascendancy or domination, that is rarely seen. The confidence that lies in his steps are often mistaken for cockiness but in all actuality it is simply a learned behavior. He can usually be seen wearing expensive or fashionable clothing. Its nothing for him to have the latest in gear.

Personality: Marcello is strange and utterly intimidating. He walks around as if he owns everything and believes strongly that he should be respected above everyone else. This stems from the belief that he is royalty and therefore should be obeyed at all cost. Being a man of few words, he often speaks with his eyes and body. One may get a formidable glare before actually hearing his displeasure or a brazen action before an apology.

Taking great pride in his family name, Marcello is willing to defend them to the death if need be. This has often gotten him into trouble but he has yet to tame the impulse that rises from it. Its been engraved in his mind that his family is courageously noble so to disrespect his name is too disrespect his entire lineage. Even mispronouncing it can spark a rise out him, causing him to display a magical threat. Along with his disdain for crowded areas, he has a cliche bag of princely traits that come with his upbringings. He tends to be possessive with his things, people included. He's rude to a fault, often correcting teachers and leisurely doing what he want. And while it is definitely an asset to have him as a friend, its near impossible to gain his trust and respect.

He enjoys reading Manga out in the open; his favorite being the supernatural kind that often pits the hero up against royalty. He always end up pouting about the prince being a wuss. He has a even greater hate for people that smoke then he does for large crowds and will openly attack a person if they ever blow said smoke in his direction. He has the bad habit of whistling whenever he gets bored, which has been a disturbance to many a classes since his enrollment to Vale. He is most at peace when looking at the drizzle of a coming rain storm; which is also a rare occasion.

History: Born to a recently established royalty, on a island lying next to the equator, Marcello was the third child and expected first heir to the current King and Queen. This island held the races of several different cultures, all of which had decided to live there lives on it. It was a budding government that had been created by the first King using his spirit magic. Since then, the magic has been passed down the line; skipping a generation or two every once in awhile. It was always expected that those without the magical powers would be weak and unfit to rule.

The first two were gifted with the magic but were also free-spirited youths. They wanted nothing more than to explore the world and investigate their (spirit) magic through experience and adventure. Marcello's father: Mikhail and his mother: Hiroki decided that it would be best to be strict with him, so as to be guaranteed that he came out as a proper heir. He was forced to learn many things and it seemed for every one he had mastered, they had three more that needed to be started on afterwards.

For most of his life, he was just as carefree as his brothers. He never saw them but it was mentioned that he bared a remarkable resemblance to them by servants. Which, in its own way made him happy. At the age of 9, it was horrible to say that he couldn't wait to leave his home. To be able to travel the world and one day meet up with his older siblings. However, that chance never came. When it was discovered that his spirit magic had been overwritten with light, his father went to extremes to burn the importance of his duties into him. He taught the boy a powerful spell that had been passed down since the first emergence of magical humans. A spell specifically honed by the 2nd King of the Crest family. It used principles designed by force of will and for years he attempted to incorporate it into his light properties.

By the time he had turned 13, he had experienced great loneliness, even when surrounded by so many others. The loneliness had changed him. First it broke him down then slowly begin to mold him into the reclusive and solitary prince that his family had wanted. At the age of 14, it was announced that the Crest family's heir had been chosen, that when he turned 18 he would take the reigns. Many of the islanders were against this, creating a rebellious campaign that demanded for the return of the other princes. This in turned had spurred a small civil war on his island, from the ones that were loyal to the family and the ones that refused to accept Marcello's future as leader.

A year and three months into the political uproar and he was sent a invitation from the Vale Institution. His parents had no reason to deny him this great honor, so instead they pushed him to accept. Plus it made them feel safe that he was away from the revolt. While he would had rather declined, annoyed by the idea of being surrounded by commoners, he had become use to obeying his mother and father's wishes. So he would enter the Academy and as usual dominate whatever would come his way.

  • @Chocolate: Alright. Feel free to come back once you're settled.

@Yamagi: If you're wanting to make a Light character, then by all means, go ahead. Zane doesn't count towards the total, so there is still an open spot for Light. Also, I got you covered on the reserve.
