Welcome to the Galigo Region, a recently discovered, newly settled land full of wonders and opportunities. People from all over have come to the islands of Galigo in search of mystery and adventure, traversing the ever-shrouded misty valleys, lush green forests, and bottomless caves for rare treasures, past civilizations, and undiscovered Pokémon.
    [a id]history[/a id]
    History

The history of Galigo is one that is still being written. Many ages ago the island were inhabited by a culture that created large stone monoliths, but at some point in their history they vanished. Whether they were wiped out by disease, war, famine, or simply decided to leave the islands is still unknown. Evidence is sparse, but archeologists are turning up new clues each day which might shed some new light and scientists are looking into the possible role the unusually natural effects of the islands may have had on the people who once lived here.

Modern Galigo's history is fairly short. The islands were rediscovered several years back and a slow and growing migration, first of fishers and farmers, then of scientists and civil servants, has brought the island to its current state. Its cities and towns are all less than 100 years old and some are still being built. Most people who live in Galigo were born elsewhere, but a small growing native population call this region their homeland.

A group calling itself The Circle and claiming to be the original inhabitants to Galigo have begun a nascent Pokémon league, but several citizens have countered this move with the creation of the Arrow League, an underground Pokémon league of their own.
    [a id]environment[/a id]
    Environment

Galigo is a small, but diverse region. Generally tropical to subtropical along the coasts with warm beaches and lush jungles, in the higher mountainous regions the climate becomes more temperate and on rare occasions snow will fall on the peak of Mt. Andorma. Lant Island in the west and the western side of the central Smoka Island are generally mild, cool, and dryer. Islands in east (Delfina in the north, Pegaza in the south) are warmer, windier, and more humid.

Galigo sports an extensive network of caves and valleys throughout the region. Most cave systems have not been fully explored and how extensive they are is up for debate. The islands themselves were formed eons ago from volcanic activity, but there are currently no active volcanoes in the region.

Many known Pokémon are endemic to Galigo and several introduced species have also adapted to the local environment. Claims of hitherto unknown Pokémon existing in Galigo have so far not shown any definitive proof, but their rumors persist.
    [a id]cities[/a id]
    Cities

Although it's only recently that large numbers of people have come to Galigo, there has been an explosion in construction and several small cities and towns now dot the islands.

The Galigo Region [on hiatus until October]

    Ariquez City
A big hub for hikers and outdoor types, Ariquez city is popular for its easy access to the unsettled areas of the region. It also sports a large outdoor bazaar where local treasure hunters exchange goods and information.

    Asteliard City
Asteliard is city that's perfect for new families. Comfortable, spacious, and affordable new apartments and townhouses are constantly being built. The city overflows with parks and outdoor spaces, and, thanks to its proximity to Port Novaster and the nearby biodomes, shopping for basic necessities and luxury items alike is just a few steps from your front door.

    Aquaspire City
Protected by mountains on both sides, this seaside city is perfect for relaxing on the beach or taking a quick dip in the crystal clear water. Its historic clock tower is a local landmark and inside you're find the central branch of the National Galigo Library.

    Cantide Bay
This seaside town is popular with artists and people looking to slow down. The breezy sea air is reputed to have restorative properties. For those who would rather stick with more modern healing a hospital is also close at hand. The more adventurous type can also take a short hike down to the bay to the Cantide tide pools. The town is a popular destination for artists and naturalists and several art studios are available for rent.

    Capulse City
This is the largest city in the region and as such it has a little of everything: shopping malls, salons, movie theaters, and more. All of the regions train lines run through Capulse on elevated lines, under which are the city's Neon Zones, home of numerous arcades, restaurants, music venues, and other businesses.

    Espica Town
This little town attracts visitors interested in the strange, the supernatural, or the odd and unexplained. The residents themselves embrace this spirit of wonder and encourage visitors to go on nature walks to "haunted" or "magical" spots of power nearby. Small shrines and stone markers can be seen throughout the surrounding forest.

    Geminite City
This industrial city helped Galigo become what it is today, a thriving, modern region with its extensive roadways and bridges. The city is powered entirely through solar power from the nearby Solar Shoreline. It is home to several smelting plants and other factories and to offset the sometimes pungent smells the residents have taken to planting flower gardens all across the city.

    Leovida City
Another large city on the slopes of Mt. Andorma, Leovida is the capital of Galigo. Previously its residents attempted to form a Pokémon league for the region with Leovida as the location for the League headquarters. The regional cities were unable to decide how to divide gym duties and progress had stalled, but recently an official league has begun building gyms, the first construced in Leovida itself.

Visitors to the city can attend various local Pokémon and sports competitions at Leovida's new stadium or take the popular hiking trail that leads to the peak of Mt. Andorma.

    Libark, North
North Libark is the smaller sibling of its sister city, South Libark, with fewer residents and buildings overall, but it more than makes up for it with the grand North Libark Hotel which sits on the northern tip of the island. Every year the hotel hosts a culinary competition, the winner of which becomes top chef at the hotel. On holidays throughout the year the town puts on a lavish fireworks display over the ocean to entertain its guests.

    Libark, South
South Libark is a city of food, with some of the best restaurants in the region. People come from far and wide just to taste the local delicacies whipped up by Galigo's chefs and bakers. Of special note is Poplar Patisserie, which won the coveted Golden Ladle award for three years in a row, and The Garden of Eatin' which took the title in last year's competition.

    Pisatic City
The city is built around a tall central hill topped with a gigantic tree said to have been planted by the first visitors to the island, long before the current residents. Stone monuments circle the tree and are inscribed with an as-yet indecipherable language. The purpose of these monoliths remains a mystery, but if approached they give off a faint hum, suggesting there is more to them than meets the eye.

    Port Novaster
One of the major entry points to Aito for people and goods, Port Novaster is home of the Tourist Board of Galigo, several bicycle and boat rental shops, and a host of vendors selling locally made goods. As a city it is a bit Spartan in terms of comforts, but it's still a great place to get a taste of Galigoan styles.

    Sagea Town
This town sits at the mouth of the Sagea river which winds its way inland toward Capulse City. River boat rides are available every day and offer a picturesque view of the natural landscape. For those who aren't afraid of heights, the town also has a long series of treetop bridges spanning the river and forest that offers incredible views of the island and its abundant plant life.

    Scoridge City
This fashionable, young city is popular for its many cafes and tea houses, large outdoor murals, and Echo Avenue, one of the main streets in the city popular with street musicians. Several empty lots in the city have been converted into Pokémon battling grounds used in informal tournaments. A gondola ride up the mountainside will bring sightseers to a beautiful vista overlooking the valley. Sometimes new graffiti on the murals appears overnight, written in old Galigoan, a language no one currently speaks. Most dismiss these occurrences as pranks, copies from old monoliths without an understanding of what they mean.

    Tarbaugh City
This city is one of the oldest of the modern settlements. Many of its buildings are made of stone, wood, and brick, unlike the glass and steel of the newer cities. An old stone aqueduct still brings water to the city center and its fountain shaped like a giant lion. Tarbaugh is also home to a Pokémon rescue center where injured or abandoned Pokémon are given protected environments in which to recover.

    Virgerra
A town of science, Virgerra houses the University of Galigo and its large radio telescope. Many important new technologies are being developed here to help the islanders better understand and live in harmony with the natural environment.
    [a id]otherlocations[/a id]
    Other Locations

In addition to its towns and cities there are some notable other locations in the region:

    Altria Windfarm
Large wind turbines dot the land in this part of the island. The wind never seems to stop. They are easily viewed from the nearby cycling courses.

    Asteliard Biodomes
These large, enclosed domes are essentially large greenhouses, used to grow food for the booming cities of the region and to study the effects of different climates on different plant types.

    Mt. Andorma
The highest mountain in the region, it divides the region into its warmer eastern half and its cooler western half. Occasionally snow falls on its peak.

    Mt. Auriga
The second highest mountain in the region, surrounded mostly by high jungle and not well explored.

    Sidera Lighthouse
A disused lighthouse once used to guide ships through the central sea, it now sits abandoned and reclaimed by nature.

    Sircher Lakebed
A dry lakebed thought to have been formed from a volcano or an impact crater which has seen many promising archeological studies recently.

    Solar Shoreline
This area of coastline is covered in solar panels which provide power to the island. Visitors are still welcome to enjoy the water and sand, but for their own safely are asked not to go past the fence line near the panels.

    Water Treatment Plant
This large structure is responsible for keeping the water flowing to the cities and keeping it clean. Large collecting pools gather runoff and rainwater, but often attract Pokémon who may be lurking under the surface.
    [a id]dex[/a id]
    Pokédex

These are the currently known Pokémon that inhabit Galigo:
The Galigo Region [on hiatus until October]
Most were introduced recently by trainers and have since established wild populations. Because the region is not completely explored there may be more Pokémon that have yet to be discovered. A few previously unknown Pokémon have been discovered and if rumors are to be believed there are many more yet to be seen, captured, or studied.

The following are confirmed native Galigo Pokémon:

    [a id]people[/a id]
    The People

There are as many reasons to come to Galigo as there are Pokémon, but most people walked out onto the island for the first time carrying one of these six visa:

    • Archeologist
A long time ago a people lived on these islands. How long ago? You're here to find out. That, and so much more. Now if you could only decipher these odd writings…

    • Pokémon Researcher
You're primarily interested in learning about how Pokémon live and adapt in these lands. You also hope to find one of these rumored undiscovered Pokémon.

    • Scientist
The unusual phenomenon of these islands – the strange weather, odd gravitational fields, and mysterious radio signals – piqued your curiosity and you had to find out more.

    • Settler
A new land, a new life. It's your chance to put down roots, build a home and a family, and leave your old life behind. You're almost certain no one followed you here.

    • Tourist
These wild frontiers are exciting places to visit, meet new people, and create new memories, but your real life is back home. You plan to make the most of your time here.

    • Treasure Hunter
Tales of riches scattered in the jungles and buried in caves brought you out in hopes of scoring big and living the high life. Stay safe. The competition can get a little rough.
    [a id]citizenship[/a id]

  • An earthquake has struck the Galigo region. Moments before the emergency warning system broadcast the following announcement to all phones and televisions:

Early warning systems have detected an incoming earthquake. Please move to a safe area. This is not a test.

Once the initial shaking has stopped, please move to your designated safety area or evacuation point. Stay away from the shore and more to high ground. Avoid cliffs and bridges. If you cannot reach your evacuation point please move to any open field. Take only what you can immediately carry. All Pokémon should be returned to their Pokéballs. Further instructions will be forthcoming. We repeat: This is not a test.

On social media people reacted as the quake struck:

Just had an #earthquake in #galigo now aftershocks

Really frightening. Lots of shaking. Thought the building was going to collapse.

im in ariquez city and we just had an earthquake im ok everyone plz #CheckOnYourLovedOnes

MY PURRLOIN RAN AWAY PLEASE HELP FIND HIM

I could see everything shaking it was kinda cool but kinda scary

The news quickly reported on ongoing developments:

"We have reports coming in of damages in Leovida City were the roof of a house has been buried in a landslide. So far no reports of injuries, but rescue workers are having difficulty accessing the building because of how remote it is. GNN's own special reporter Gwen is at the scene with more."

"Thank you, Steve. As you can see there is massive damage to the home behind me. What we can tell so far is that part of the building collapsed either from the initial quake or from the rocks that fell."

"What can you tell us about the occupants?"

"We spoke earlier with neighbors and they tell us that the home belongs to an elderly couple who use their home as a daycare for Pokémon. If you look to the side of the building you'll see what look like fences which I'm told are where many of the Pokémon were kept."

"It looks like the fences have been knocked down."

"That's right, Steve. There have been scattered reports of Pokémon running loose in the city. With all of the road closures and power down in many places it will be a while before rescuers can turn their attention to finding them and returning them to their trainers."

"Thank you, Gwen. And we'd like to remind viewers that if you find a stray Pokémon you can call the hotline on your screen to report it."

It soon became clear that the damage was less than initially assumed. Power remained down in many parts of the region as night fell, and the next morning a new twist to the story had developed. As reported by the Galigo Times:

    Pokémon Disappearance in Quake Wake

In the aftermath of the earthquake many people breathed a sigh of relief that the damage had been minimal, only to wake up the next morning to find another disaster had struck.

"I was going to take my Growlithe out for a walk like I always do," said Russell (23) of Geminite City. "I found her Pokéball, but when I opened it she was gone."

When Russell went searching he found a hole in his door and a trail of trash cans and garbage leading out into the street. Similar stories appeared all across the region: Pokémon found missing and homes vandalized.

"It's got to be the work of criminals. Who else would steal people's Pokémon like this, right after everyone is already suffering?"

A spokesperson for the Leovida City Police declined to comment on speculation that thieves targeted Pokémon in the wake of the earthquake, but said that they would put forth every effort to find and return any lost Pokémon.

Although reports of missing Pokémon are common in the wake of a disaster, the large numbers missing is causing worry among Leovida residents where some unconfirmed estimates say that over half of the Pokémon have disappeared.

How or when these Pokémon will be returned is anyone's guess.

  • Today, the following manifesto was delivered to each of the offices of the mayor in Galigo's cities.

    Greetings, people of Galigo.

    We are the Cirlce.

First, wish to offer our condolences to all those of you who have lost Pokémon. It is a terrible thing to lose a close companion, especially in the wake of a tragedy such as the one which has befallen our homeland.

We are The Circle, the original inhabitants of Galigo. Long before those who claim leadership came to these islands we were here, struggling to survive but content, raising Pokémon, but living peacefully. Then the invaders came. We went into hiding, waiting for the right time to show ourselves.

We wish for you all to know that the cause of these disappearances is not of our making. Although we have kept ourselves secret from you, we are not strangers. We are your neighbors, your coworkers, even members of your family.

We wish you to know that we hold no animus toward you. What has happened in the past is the past. What we want is not war, but peace. And as a gesture of peace we offer you our help. You have lost many precious Pokémon. You are confused and alone. We can help return your friends to you. In return we ask that you accept the proposal which we have sent before the council of mayors. Allow The Circle to oversee Pokémon battles within Galigo. Accept us as your Pokémon League. If you do, then together we will make Galigo strong, whole, and prosperous.

Several hours later the following announcement came from the Council of Mayors:

We, with due diligence, have accepted a proposal put before the council. Galigo will begin plans to build a Pokemon League and series of gyms across the region. Further details will be forthcoming.

A representative of The Circle, along with several police officers, then gathered at City Hall in Ariquez City. From there they traveled north into the forest. The following is an excerpt from the account of one of the police officers who was part of this expedition.

"We went along the service roads, down into a valley in the uninhabited areas up north. It was real foggy. Like, I couldn't see more than a few steps ahead. But our guide, this woman from The Circle, she walked through the bushes like they weren't there. We all had to scramble to keep up. So this went on for a few hours and we were all really hungry and tired by then, but then we came to a stream and we followed that until we got to a lake. I don't know exactly what happened next, but when we turned around there were all these Pokémon."

Pole report that they estimate almost 50 Pokemon were found and brought back to Ariquez City. More trips into the forest are planned and people seem optimistic about the prospect of recovering their Pokemon. Public opinion regarding The Circle is generally positive and people seem eager to learn what plans they have for Galigo's new Pokémon League.

  • New Pokémon Discovered?

The cleanup efforts after the earthquake have uncovered new, compelling evidence of Pokémon thought only to exist in urban legends.

Not much is known about these except that they appear to inhabit urban areas where most sightings have occurred. Some reports suggest they fly, others that they crawl quickly across the ground. By all accounts they are skittish around humans, but appear at ease around other Pokémon.

If anyone has any information about or photographs of these Pokémon they can contact the nearest Pokémon Center.

  • Sanctioned League Faces Opposition, Underground League Emerges, Gym Leaders Sought

It seems there are two competing Pokemon Leagues in Galigo. Recently the local governments acquiesced to a request giving full authority to start Galigo's official league to a group called The Circle. The Circle, as many remembered, were a secret group which came out of hiding to help in the aftermath of the earthquake and subsequent missing Pokémon disaster. They were initially met with wide approval thanks to their quick response in helping to bring back lost Pokémon, but in recent weeks they have come under suspicion for not representing themselves honestly when they claimed to be native inhabitants of Galigo. Video evidence sent anonymously to various news outlets purports to show several known members of The Circle living in other regions, some decades ago.

Building on this growing distrust, a group of unsanctioned trainers have set up an underground league, calling it the Arrow League in a clear attempt to portray themselves as straightforward and without ulterior motives. So far no attempts have been made to shut down this unofficial league, but tensions are rising and many people are feeling the pressure to side with the Circle or Arrow leagues.

So far four official gyms have been built in Leovida City, Asteliard City, Geminite City, and North Libark. The Circle League, in a move designed to show its openness and transparency, is looking for competent trainers to serve as gym leaders. The Arrow League responded with a similar request to the public for qualified trainers to help lead their gyms which they have established in Capulse City, Scoridge City, Cantide Bay, and Espica Town.

If you want to become a gym leader it looks like you'll have to pick a side. The authorized Circle League which has already done a service to the people of Galigo, or the underground Arrow League which claims to better represent the people of the region. Anyone who doesn't want to become a gym leader can of course remain neutral.

  • Well... As a resident of Scoridge, I guess I would apply as a Gym Leader for the Arrow League... I would not want to be a part of something that is not at least recognised by Government. What can I do?

You could always change your city to another one if that's what you'd like. You're my first sign up so, I dunno, call it a perk. You could also go undercover and pretend to support one side if you want to be sneaky. Get creative and if you've got something nice I can try to make it fit it.

  • New Pokémon Confirmed!

More work still needs to be done to capture specimens, but science can confirm the existence of new Pokémon in the Galigo region.

So far these three Pokémon have been observed living close to one other in empty buildings which makes researches suspect they prefer urban environments. The two smaller species are confirmed to be Bug-type Pokémon and the larger one as a dual Bug/Psychic-type. Their names are so far unknown.

  • I'll apply as Gym Leader of Scoridge, but I'll be reporting to the Government any questionable activity. I'll primarily use Ghost Pokémon, though there are some Psychic types, as well. These new Pokémon interest me! Is the 2nd one related to the other two?...

  • More Pokémon Rumors

It seems that in recent days reports of strange, unusual, and unexplained occurrences have skyrocketed. As developments push into the uncharted forests and mountains people are noticing that they are getting lost easily, that phone service will inexplicably die and come back, that certain spots in the forest are unnaturally cold. People also report sudden changes in their behavior and the feeling of being watched. Perhaps the most common and persistent reports concern sightings of Pokémon which do not match any known species.

Here are two which have been reported by multiple people in and around the Water Treatment Plant.

These Pokémon are said to be found entering the plant at dusk and disappearing by morning. They are being blamed for several small malfunctions around the plant and a local superstition of leaving offerings of food for the Pokémon has started, but the plant managers worry this might only encourage more to come.

Are you still looking for a Fairy-type gym leader and if so is it alright to use a few foreign Pokemon?

(PokemonNerd, isn't Chris already a trainer with that same picture in quite a few regions already?)

  • So, for all you new gym leaders, I gots an assignment for you. Gyms need to be personalized, yeah? Like in the games. So come up with something to make your gym special and different and that fits with your type or theme. Just a few sentences is all, just a brief description or idea will be fine.

um... can I apply for the Ice Type gym leader on the Circle League? Thanks.

You'll need to pick a city. Leovida City, Asteliard City, Geminite City, or North Libark.

Are you still looking for a Fairy-type gym leader and if so is it alright to use a few foreign Pokemon?
