This has to be the most annoying thing in the anime series of Pokemon, TEAM ROCKET, I mean come on, don't you think Team Magma/Aqua could of been the Hoenn series and so on. What do you guys think?

In rebuttal to this topic of discussion - "flawlessness" is the most vociferous enemy of completion. My issue is not the failures of Jessie, James, and Meowth but the threadbare application of said failures (which I think further Ash and company's tenacity which in turn strengthens Jessie, James, and Meowth) - staying the course of Ash, Pikachu, and company rather cantankerously. They (Jessie, James, and Meowth) may holler loudest, thus not knowing what they are doing. But I find them to be some of the most well developed and complex, dynamic characters of the show. I think they add a great deal, diverging from the usual black-and-white morales that the show's themes are grounded in when all is said and done.

Yeha when they pop up It is always when I am least interested in an episode. They pretty much annoy me since they always seem to have the same damn plan that fails. Or they will do it but stick around for them to get stopped.

I think what drives me insane and stops me from watching the series (cheesy dubs aside) is probably the repetitiveness. Team Rocket bumbles along, trying hopelessly to capture pikachu/any pokémon that can beat pikachu. Ash and his friends stupidly fall for the same thing (giant robot, cage that shoots out, stupid disguises, pitfall traps, etc) and wonder how on earth they could have tricked them.
I used to love team rocket, they were so bad-ass in the first series, but now they're just goofy, comic relief bad guys who can't actually do their job. I say, be done with them. It would raise the recommended viewing age a little if they were gone. :/

From all their insidious antics to steal Pikachu, they are getting old...

It's an anime show designed for young children. It's obviously not going to be very original or deep. The way some people on this messageboard moan about stuff, it's like they expect the show to be the next Godfather movie or an episode of Top Gear.

Besides they've done over 500 episodes of the show. They are bound to have exhausted most possibles plots and so you are bound to see a lot of repetition in places. It's a testament to the show that it's still being produced where a lot of other anime and even TV shows have come and gone over the years.

As for Team Rocket, they are as big of part of the show as Ash is. Take them out, you'll have no show. They are still funny, though not as much as when Eric Stuart was doing James's voice, and still occasianaly do provide some original and innovative episode plots. It's one of those situations where you don't realise how important and good something is till they are gone.

They sometimes actually save some episodes from being complete failure, the Chingling episode comes to mind. Without Team Rocket and their fake Chingling, that episode would just be...blah. They have always been comic relief. Episode 3, anyone? A nearly dead Caterpie defeats Team Rocket with String Shot.

LOVE Top Gear! But not how Eric Stuart's voice ended up, it was extremly annoying.

This is actually where we get into the more technical definition of "comic relief": enemies who actually come across as being able to win yet somehow lose at a moment's notice because it is a children's show, or far less serious villains who completely mess up and are launched into the air every time? In the beginning, all three of them appeared as competent henchmen, actually being able to pull off a heist or two. Their losses are much more easily attributed to how new Ash/Satoshi still was as a Trainer, as well as the "heroes always win" rule. It was not until later in the anime that they shifted into the "true" comic relief roles they still fulfill today.

Still, Jessie, James, and Meowth have become important characters in their own right. If they were not around, I guarantee that you would miss them.

It was a funny moment. Being defeated by Ash's weakest, most newly caught Pokemon so easily after putting up a good fight is probably supposed to be funny, although I didn't find it much funny....Although, I agree they didn't become funny characters, as in their personalities, until later. Every appearance they have now is not comic relief and that's where they're annoying. Just popping up and being defeated...but maybe that was always supposed to be funny. I dunno. They acted more serious at the start, but they still lost easily.

Team Rocket used to be classic... until the 3rd and 4th generation eps.
When Team Rocket's plain fails over and over again... it's not that funny. It was not very funny in the first place. Now they are so predictable. Out with the old and in with the new.

I must be odd, since I voted not really.

Yes I admit seeing the same old thnig gets boring fast, yes I agree that another team should come in place of them but you have to think this.

No matter who they bring in, the idea is similar. To steal pokemon and to drive Ash and his friends up the wall with their disguises (if they have any).

I would like more episodes like when Team Rocket work with Ash's team, but then if they did that too much, it would also get old fast.

Plus, what is pokemon without a small meantion of Team Rocket?

:\ They've done the same thing since the second episode of pokemon. Steal pokemon, namley Ash's Pikachu and cause a lot of bother and trouble to Ash and company. And in every episode they've been in from the start they've failed to steal the pokemon they were after.

What happened differently between the 2nd to 3rd generation that made them from a classic into ....... well, not a classic?

Even if they would replace them with another team-whatever. It would be the same, because it's a kids show that repeats everything and a meaningless story (sorry)
The best about the series is the discussion with others about them =)
Personally like Team Rocket...but mainly because of the discussions outside of the show. And besides I'm rocketshipper.
It's fun to talk about them.
But the show isn't really interesting for me anyway (still I watch it so that I know whats going on)
They were better in Dengeki Pikachu.

Well then, I have something wrong with me. I still like Team Rocket. It might be because I can do James' voice really well. But I've always liked Team Rocket. So TEAM ROCKET FTW

If Team Rocket were removed from the show, there'd be just as many people who want them back as those who wanted them gone, if not more. They're part of the furniture, to use a metaphor, along with Ash, Brock, and NewRegionGirl. To remove them now wouldn't have a good effect on the anime, though I agree that some episodes can seem... refreshing without them.

They shouldn't get rid of Team Rocket. Like was said before, Team Rocket is a major part of the Pokemon series now. What they should do, however, is introduce a new villain at some point. I haven't watched the show recently, so I don't know what they've done with Team Galactic, but they need a relatively serious antagonist.

I guess that comes in the form of J, and to a lesser extent Paul. Team Galactic have become a greater force recently, with a one-hour special entitled "Team Galactic Attacks!" airing fairly recently, and one would sense that a confrontation of sorts is being built up to.

I personally LOVE Team Rocket and I think that even though their act are repetitive you have to think in life what really isn't? Maybe this is why some people feel that they need to see some new team work the antics of the villain and replace Team Rocket. I think all that it would do is give the illusion of change but the story would be the same. Then again maybe that is the "problem" I have since I voted Not Really in the poll! ^_^

    Just my opinion!

I like the characters in Team Rocket as individuals, but there constant "lets steal{INSERTPOKEMONNAMEHERE}for the boss" attitude is getting old, maybe if they let them win once and actully send a Pokémon to Giovanni, that said though i wouldn't like them to leave, a lot of the time i feel sorry for them, especially when at times they have tried to catch WILD Pokémon and Ash feels the need to stop them, i mean he's going around doing the same thing, also i feel they are the most developed characters in the series, because unlike Ash and his friends they know the world doesn't revolve just around Pokémon, for example we know that James collects bottle caps and is a runaway from his very rich family and awful fiancé, we know Meowth taught himself to walk upright and talk, we know that Jessie had a hard life even before joining Team Rocket, what do we really know about Ash and his friend, well nothing really except that they like Pokemon, no real back story for them (well except Brock but even that did tell us much), so despite how the writes might hide it sometimes they are the most well developed characters in the series and should stay, just try and spice up and refresh there roles a bit.
