  • No. There's really no point in flagging about why a certain person got banned. If they got banned for being immature, but don't want to admit it, then it'll be a slap in the face to have the reason flagged around. Kinda like how I'm glad that not many people know why Went banned me. Immaturity. Anyways, I say no, and I know that the staff will say no as well. There's no point in it, and it's very intrusive.

Sure, people get curious as to why other members are banned, but what it boils down to is that it just isn't anyone else's business. It's between the user who was banned, and maybe two or three of the staff. There's no reason for everyyyone to know why someone was banned from PC.. that could make the user feel bad, too. D: If you were banned, you probably wouldn't want everyone knowing why, same goes for me, if I was. x_x

Yep, very true. Can we keep this discussion open, please? I'd like to know what everyone, including the admins think of this suggestion.

Here's a suggestion, based on some of the comments in this thread.

What about having a thread, which has bans in it? But only the serious type of bans (illegal content, hentai, pornography) gets their place there? All the other types, can stay private.

    Better idea?

Sorry to say, but it would still make no sense. I don't think information about why a member is banned should be needed at all. It really isn't any of our business and the only thing we could know about is that they got banned because they broke the rules. The staff deals with the members who breaks the rules and not us so there really isn't a point why we should know.

  • But, the question is, if you know that posting pornography/spamming/hacking goes against the rules, what would be the point of listing all the people that has been banned for that?

It makes sense to list it in the staff forums, because they may ask for the reasons for their bans. But why make it public? Plus, most of the time, all the posts these accounts made get deleted, thus making any kind of "example" purpose useless.

No, it's an awful idea. No matter how bad the actions of the banned members are, they are still entitled to their privacy.

Yeah very true. Now I'm not advertising any forums, I'd just like you to see some other forums where they have a forum dedicated to this purpose:

RelicNews' bans/suspensions zone: https://forums.relicnews.com/forumdisplay.php?f=168 (you'll find me in that list, stupid reasons)

HeavenGames moderation Announcements: https://www.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=t&fn=27 (ridiculous reasons when you find me in the list)

^ And there's that thread. So we already have it, you just can't see it.

Serious things? In the Mod Lounge?

Jeeze, you guys are slacking nowadays. Back in my day... *Grumble.* FIFTEEN miles... *Mumble.* Zzzzzzz...

Seriously, though, as has been said, a public announcement would be a waste. The people who need to know (the mods/admins/banned people) will know, serious issues (hacking, etc) will be reported to the community via announcements, and useless accounts (spambots, etc) are deleted, not made an example of ("Don't ever come here again, Google Spider! Waaaah!").

  • It doesn't matter. It's a pointless/intrusive idea. If someone wants to let their ban reason known, then they will give you a shout on an Instant Messenger or other Forum to tell you the details. Otherwise, it's confidential.

EDIT: And we're PokéCommunity. Not RelicNews. Not HeavenGames.

  • It's been our policy for years to not give out ban reasons due to privacy concerns. The only person that absolutely needs to know about a ban is...the actual banned member, and, as has already been mentioned, not everybody wants such details aired out in public where everybody and their mother can see them.

Otherwise, it's absolutely no one's business as to why a ban was given out, and there's really no reason to show such stuff publicly (especially not if the reason is just "I'd like to know"). If a person wants to say why they were banned to someone else, then they're free to do so; otherwise, their privacy trumps the curiosity of others.

You do realize that you're advertising reasons why the PC staff should ban you right now, no?

Why would you want to know personal information on someone, who may or may not have any PC relations to you anyway? I mean think of it this way, if you got banned would you want the entire forum to know your business?

It wouldn't make sense having one either, because then even if they are booted out, there are those who will want to mock the person, which isn't right. Like said, everyone is entitled to their own privacy and having a section based for them alone to let everyone know will only take up valuable space for something more time worthy.

Honestly, I would leave the privacy system the way it is. There has been no problems with banned member information before, and it really wouldn't be needed now.

I'm just as curious as the next person, but I know it's none of my business. Perhaps you should learn that, too.

I'm gonna keep my answer straight and simple

No and just no. If they get banned, they're not even worth hearing about in the first place.

  • The only reason you should know why someone was banned was if they were close to you, and you could just contact them some other way.

But this seems pretty pointless and embarrassing, especially for the person that was banned.

  • Personally, I have mixed feelings on this subject. I mean, I feel that members here deserve to know why other members have been banned, but on the other hand, a discussion like that may lead to arguement as to whether or not said member actually deserved a ban. I mean, if a thread or sub-forum were to be created regarding this matter, I just see the whole thing being turning into a massive "THAT WAS TOTALLY UNFAIR HOW YOU BANNED THEM, JUST FOR HAVING PORN IN THEIR SIGNATURE."

If you're close enough with someone, you should be able to ask them outside of PC why they were banned. Why a member was banned is usually kind of personal, and I doubt that it's something someone would just want posted up for everyone else on the forum to see. I just see the whole thing being turned into a "wall of shame." =/
